I would. Not just because of money but because qualifying for the CL gives us a genuine chance of winning it.

Chance of a trophy vs actual trophy.

I'd take the trophy every time. I'd love to win the FA Cup again. I can't even remember the last time. The Gerrard final I suppose?
      Oh I don't know.

Well done And all that, but it sets a tone of mediocrity in what isn’t surely another season where the very minimum target is all that has been achieved.
Unfortunately, top 4 has become the holy grail. The FA Cup and League Cup are seen by some as a distraction. I’ll be honest, I would take top 4 (and CL qualification) over a domestic trophy.

Not all trophies are equivalent. Personally, I hate the FA cup, the bull**** faux romanticism, the desperation for smaller sides to play away from home for a payday, the fact that cup final day competes with PL games; it's a **** competition that the BBC desperately try and pretend is still interesting because it's all they can afford.

And the Worthington cup has never really been a valuable piece of silverware.

The CL, on the other hand, is the most presigious trophy in club football, and the reason why we are the most successful English football club of all time.

Not this year. I think they have learnt to give it the space. FA Cup wins still mean something to me. Id quite like one again.

No one remembers that heroic season we scraped 4th. But they do remember the season we won the FA Cup.

The idea of Football is to win stuff. Being 'In the conversation' is pointless. Just look at Spurs and how much they get laughed at for winning **** all over and over.

Yes, because they don't win the competitions they enter; they think taking part is what counts because they have an inferiority complex. We do win it, and do so repeatedly and qualification is the conduit for the ultimate success.

Depends on the context. McAllister's goal against Everton to propel us towards CL qualification was just as memorable as any of the finals that year.

Arsenal have won 3 of the last 4 FA cups and it's got the manager sacked. I can't imagine in 10 years that many Arsenal supports will be looking back fondly on this period.

Our recent FA cup wins were memorable for different reasons (Gerrard's goal, part of treble) but in 10 years I imagine we'll talk more of this CL run (regardless of what happens in the final) than say Kenny's league cup win.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think the thing is, that Spurs are obviously saying getting 4th is better than winning the cup, because they arent winning any cups.

I didn't hear them saying that previous to them not getting in any finals.

It would have some credibility as a statement if they had said it earlier in the season.

Spurs fans must look at where we are this season with some envy. They were in a great position to progress in the CL and blew it.

No one does pointless, nothing achievements quite like these. The "beat Real Madrid" cup, "the best form over two seasons" award. "Finished above Liverpool x years in a row" shield. "Undefeated at home", "we challenged Leicester", "the top scorer" and not one team trophy to show for it. It's quite funny that this is their golden era and the best they've done is reach a cup semi final and somehow managed to finish 3rd in a 2 horse race.
