Matt Scott (who I believe) is reasonably well regarded in journo circles was on TS this afternoon talking about the redeveloped ground and the extra income it will bring which in theory will bring them alongside the likes of us / Utd etc.

Except (and he is an Arsenal fan) he said the benefit will be wiped out by debt repayments of £40m per season and by wage demands, as paying players on the cheap has run its' course he reckons and they all want pay parity with the likes of Kane and DA or they'll be off (like Erikssen supposedly).

Factor in also that they can't go on not buying anyone so (in his view) the whole redevelopment has very marginal financial benefits.

I'm sure he was laying it on thick to make it a worthwhile story but it would be splendid if all that effort resulted in very little reward - other than something nice and shiny for the fans to look at and some self pouring beer pumps.

But then, if you're gonna end up no worse off than you were before, you might as well end up with something nice, shiny and world class for net free, so to speak.

They've just about done the right thing on balance, I think.
                Oh I don't know.

What happens if they don't make the CL? Seems to me that missing out even one year would really throw an spanner into the works. They couldn't sign anyone last summer, and if they miss out now, they could really be in trouble, Eriksen wants a better deal, Alderweireld is on the way out isn't he?

At least they need to focus on the league game against City rather than the CL games.
                  * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Well agreed Dom nice and shiny is much nicer than old WHL but they might not think so if it bites them.

I read something separate today (on the beeb I think) which said that their wages bill is currently £100m behind Arsenal's (the next lowest of the top six).

The chances of them keeping that up and staying competitive over a period would be slim IMO.

They bought a lot of good players on long term, low salary deals, to keep up they then offered long term, mid salary deals so the players got a decent rise and Spurs had the comfort of a long term deal. If they want to go Levy has the comfort they can go for a big fee (ala Walker), but if the likes of Alderweld and Erickssen walk for peanuts, and then land big deals, he still gets a decent fee as they sell with a year left. Been the decent kids are on low deals.

How long can they keep the recruitment levels that high, there will also be a whopper in there....

The problem they now have is attracting big name players on big deals as the natives will get restless and may upset the apple cart.

Got a feeling if they miss out on top 4, they ain't spending as that stadium needs a lot of cash to repay....

GBP400m loan added for repayment in 2022 (will be refinanced) + I'd expect another GBP300 -GBP500m on the next set of accts. TV increased (ala Liverpool) along with match day receipts for Wembley.

And re their profits, they havent bought much for a fair while, they might recoup selling erikson and a couple of others, but then anyone they buy will soon swallow up tye sales profits.
