I think the one chance Spurs had of keeping him for a bit longer was if England won the Euros. That would have given him the title he craves and a season where he could have toured the country as the captain that ‘brought it home’.
As it stands he is staring at a future with Spurs and winning nothing ever. Bringing nothing home. Ever.
