What is their supposed advantage? Why do they exist?

Also, assuming that they have for some reason to exist why don't the FA/PL insist that we set our own deadline at that this is the day before the first matches of the season?

Some teams,like ourselves depend on qualifying for the Champions league before they know how much they have to spend.

Like yer man said on SSN,transfer windows only promote panic buying at inflated prices and we need to revert back to the old way where the window only closes for the last 10 weeks of the season to stop Clubs from buying their way out of trouble.

Its a tough one this isnt it, i liked it before when you could buy whenever you wanted, well nearly, but i guess that makes it easier for the big clubs now that they have loads of cash and money is king. For example a relegation threatened team which has its star player playing well gets an offer from a title chasing team for big bucks, the board is going to think well, that 30mill will sort us out for next season in the championship eh, money just rules too much at present. I think the window is a good idea but ruined by the ludicrous amounts of cash currently being thrown about.

We wouldn`t have gambled on Reira before we qualified for the CL though.

I see the sense of the first part in a way but for the good of the game surely it would be better if teams had to plan before they knew that and therefore were more conservative i.e. you spend money you already have (from say last years CL) rather than what you gain this. It would be a change in planning but I don't think it would cause any great problems to be honest.

The window closing at the end of the season is to a degree sound although I think you have to modify the justification in that I don't see any real difference in buying your way out of trouble at the end or beginning of the season in broad terms. The difference is at the end teams would be tempted to buy players off rivals and effectively big teams could bribe teams to not risk trying to stay up by buying their players at a premium.

But then teams like ManU,chelsea and now man city would have a huge advantage as they don`t/won`t need CL qualifying money.the gap between the haves and the have nots is getting greater and the transfer window suits the Haves.

Even now, deals can be made between big teams and smaller teams to help them stay up in return for allowing the big team to buy their star south american striker in the window.

The window already favours the haves over the have nots and for almost all clubs worldwide we are a have and realistically speaking the gap in the PL has been allowed to grow too large between the top 4 and the rest already. I don't think the change I suggested would make much difference to be honest.

Agreed but the closer to the end of the season the more easy it is to know who is involved and therefore the bigger the problem becomes.

I`ve been suggesting Transfer/wage caps since Abromvich changed the face of football by throwing silly money around.
Fifa should take a look at American football transfers.

If Man City continue in the same vein we will be talking of a top 5 or possibly a top 3 made up of the two Mancs and Chelsea with us and the Gooners slightly below.
