Danny Baker

Switched on the radio last night to listen to 606 and groaned when I heard it was Danny Baker. I seem to remember listening to him doing it sometime last season and not liking him one bit and indeed, the first 10 minutes did nothing to change this view. But after a while, I found that some of his ‘jokes’ started to find their mark and his some of his observations and anecdotes were rather sharp and funny. True, there were still one or two things he said that left me baffled but on the whole I started to wonder if I’d been guilty of misjudging him.

So, was just wondering if anyone here has any opinion on him, maybe formed from his time spent on 5 Live from years gone by (which were a little before my time).

I'm surprised he's back on 5live to be honest.

He invented 606, and therefore the whole concept of the football phone-in (he has a lot to answer for).

He has been sacked from the programme at least twice (once for for inciting Spurs fans to invade their pitch in protest if I remember correctly).

I always enjoyed listening to him in the old days as he used to get so wound up with all that is wrong with football, with the usual end of result of saying something mildly controversial, but borne out of passion. Ultimately, he would say what we are all thinking, but without the holding back normally associated with a broadcaster.

he is a funny guy - went a bit knob headish when he was bummin chris evans but hopefully all that is behind him ...so to speak

It's a much better programme for having a skilled radio presenter rather than a co-opted commentator or DJ. Don't particularly like Baker but he is good at his job and has an obvious passion for the game.
