Not so sure, technically it's hugely difficult to do what crouch did - especially when you consider his size. Pretty close, I wouldn't want to say one was better than the other.

I think too many people are viewing this with rose tinted spectacles.

My hatred for Arsenal is well documented and even I wouldn't dream of suggesting Crouch's goal was even in the same league as Van Persie's.

Nope, nothing to do with bias whatsoever. I swear. I'm well capable of being objective about these things and IMO van Persie's goal, as fantastic as it was, is being WAY overrated. I've heard some compare it to van Basten's famous volley! What the ****? The only similarities are that they were both volleys scored by Dutchmen. Nothing else. Another called it "the best goal in Premiership history". WTF?

Great goal but being overhyped beyond belief. Crouch's volley, technically very difficult, flew right into the corner. van Persie was running on to his (an easier technique) and it went into the middle of the net; the power beating the keeper.

        Crouch every time.

I've done a scissor kick like Crouch in a match once, (Tom had a point about his size - honestly didn't think Crouch had a goal like that in him) though in my case it was more down to good fortune than technique. In fact i've seen a lot better footballers than me ping in overheads and scissors with relative proficiency etc.

But I have never scored, or seen anything like Persey's goal (at amateur level). It's so much harder running on to a ball like that, than knocking on in from a standing position. That said if anyone's comparing it van Basten then, yes it's being far too over-hyped.

More like Di Canio's than Van Basten's.

Nah i'm not buying that either - he had much more time to see the ball than van Basten, and it was an easier angle. The little scissor kick before the strike made it look better than it was.

Just realised i must be a grumpy ****er - all these goals were bloody brilliant. And i shouldn't analysing them.

Particularly by the BBC who strangely enough don't have the rights to Crouch's goal in the Champions League.

This sensationalised coverage of football is really doing my head in.
                .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Its a very good goal, as was Crouchie's, but "the best in premiership history" or "equal to VanBasten's" it certainly aint. People have such short memories, its nowhere near as good as these two either

That Maxi Rodriquez goal is outstanding. One of the best goals I've ever seen.

In fact it's maybe just behind Igor's against Fulham.

See part of me wonders why Biscan plays that crossfield pass when surely

                            a) Shooting
                            b) Slipping it through to Cisse

would be a better option (actually ignore b).

Anyone got that run he did against Leverkusen to set up Garcia?

                              Couldn't agree more. Unbelievable goal.

Not much in it between Van Persie's and Rooney's, neither of which are near to being the best in Premiership history, or bear comparison with Van Basten's.
