Owen cannot be relied upon simple. He's a sicknote. If you only average 15 club game per season you shouldn't be picked.

This Capello fellow, he certainly is hard to fathom.
            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Gerrard and Lampard are ruled out of the squad. Bullard and Parker called up as replacements.

                  Today, yes.

                  Four years ago, no.

Agbonlahor 30 goals in 122 games or 4.06 games per goal
Defoe 140 in 342 or 2.44 games per goal
Crouch 106 in 334 or 3.15 games per goal

So much better than Owen - 197 in 392 or 1.98 games per goal

Might as well include Bent as well 111 in 275 or 2.47 games per goal

Not sure where you've plucked the 15 games a season from he's actually played on average 33 games a season since his debut(not including this season) its only the last 2 seasons (05/06 and 06/07) he has been injured and not played a lot. He is the most reliable English striker and that is a fact. I know who I'd rather have playing in a game where England need a goal to qualify for a finals and it would be Owen everytime

Capello has made it clear he will only pick players who are playing regularly. This is one reason the little welsh person is not being picked.

If it hasnt escaped your attention Ingerlund are 100% in qualifying. Believe it or not all without the little welsh person

I think you need to recheck average games a season it appears to be way too high

Bridge, Mancienne, Carrick - Have all played less games than Owen yet are in the squad

Yes England are 100% but of the strikers listed only Defoe has scored and he's only scored 1

392 games in 11 seasons equals an average of 32.6 games per season not sure what I need to re-check

What`s his averagew the last five seasons?
How much he played when he was 20 doesn`t really say much about his current injury problems.

Owen will always score goals. That is what you get from him, goals.

How much he has been out injured really isn't the important point. The important point is if he is fit now and if he is good enough.

He is fit now and he is the best english finisher out there. I don't have a clue to why he isn't picked by Capello.

To even suggest that players like Bent or Defoe is better than Owen is a joke.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

To be honest I think the one to one comparisons miss the point. Capello wants to build a team and squad where the players add up to more than the sum of their parts. Owen can't be relied on to form a regular part of the group which counts against him. It appears also that Capello wasn't impressed by his work in a deeper role at Newcastle and he is not a player who is good at holding the ball up and a Rooney, Cole, Walcott & Owen front four is a bit midget for most managers tastes i would think.

I would have him as a reserve if I was England manager but I think the argument against is quite compelling.
