How to deal with Rory Delap...

    Tried and Tested by Hull

I'm hearing news of a remarkable tactic at Stoke. Apparently, when Rory Delap has been preparing to launch his long throws into the Hull box, the Tigers have sent substitute Dean Windass sprinting down the touchline to get in Delap's way and chirp away at the Stoke man. First time he got away with it, second time he was booked by referee Keith Stroud.

It was brilliant, a better way to do it is if one of your subs get booked, send another one. Systematic booking.

The 7 subs rule is crucial for this tactic.

Yep, even get the goalie to warm up as well.

It's only going to work when he's taking one from the dugout side of the pitch but, so not quite a perfect method.

              good thinking
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

In order for the throw, delap needs a good grip on the ball, so either we make the ball sticky or we make his jersey wet

Or just dump a load of stuff between the advertising boards and the touchline so he can't get a run up.

Only at the Britannia can he do those long throws, away from home, no doubt managers will do all sorts to try and reduce his run up.

Derby the other night defended their 6 yard line with about 3 or 4 players with the rest man marking around the edge of the area. It created quite a bit of space in the area but they gambled their defenders would be better in the air than Stoke's attackers.

Hard to explain and done badly above but i saw some footage and it seemed to work.

Wigan did something similar a few weeks ago, couldn't believe motd didn't pick up on it.

They put 2-3 men on the half way line with another between the centre and area meaning Stoke had to hold back with defenders leaving a lot more space.
