    Grimsby eye Robbie Fowler swoop

    Dec 2 2008 Liverpool Echo

GRIMSBY chairman John Fenty has revealed there is “a glimmer of a chance” that former England striker Robbie Fowler will join the Coca-Cola League Two club.

The 33-year-old is currently with Barclays Premier League side Blackburn, but is out of contract at the end of this month.

Fenty retains hope that Fowler may make a sensational move to Blundell Park.

Fowler knows Grimsby manager Mike Newell well, leading to talk of a possible deal.

Fenty said: “The manager had some discussions with Robbie and then asked me if we could potentially take it forward for Robbie to come in a playing/coaching capacity.”

He's only going for the fish and chips.

Has he been fit to play while he's been at Blackburn then?

Hmm, I don't think Robbie will want to go into the path of coaching with the amount of business interests he has but it would be very interesting needless to say if he was a coach or played a part in football development in one way or another.

Yes, yes I did and yes, yes he did. Didn't get to hear his contributions in the pub did he also sound monged?

Thought he should have taken the opportunity to go to Sydney when it was offered. Obviously he's got a young family so it was inconvenient but he would have been a legend in the A-League.
