Rafa took Crouch and turned him into a class striker. Then we had to sell him.

Make that 26 games, 12 goals.

i really think crouch would have stayed until he kept seeing voronin and kuyt played as strikers in front of him.

people talk about a torres and keane partnership needing time. i think that if a torres crouch partnership had been given a chance we would have saved 20 million and been in a better position now.

real shame we let him go

yup, that could have been an ideal partnership, but would have meant SG moving wide right to accomodate Xabi and MAscher.

Despite having different styles and attributes, you can't get the best out of them when they're paired up front. Both of them are target men and should be utilized as the most advanced player in attack. Give them another role, like dropping deep to link up play (Crouch), or have one of them work the channels (Torres) just makes them less effective. It's a shame

I suppose it's ironic that crouch left but had he stayed for another season, then this season he'd no doubt have got a hell of a lot of playing time because of torres' injury problems..... feck it anyway!!!!

i think crouch up front with gerrard, riera and kuyt behind him would have possibly opened the door in some of those home 0-0 draws....... he could have brought in the supporting players a lot more....

i have always thought that crouch was a handy player.... i have a 50eur bet that he will score 21 or more goals in the prem this season at 25/1.....

As soon as Rafa wanted keane i think Crouch was out the door weather he wanted to stay or not.

Could it show that Rafa, whilst praised for being ruthless, just doesnt get the best out of players he signs?

Rafa wanted to keep him but his hands were tied because Crouch was never going to sign a new deal and we couldnt let him walk on a bosman.

On the contrary, Rafa helped turn Crouch into the top player he is now. It was a signing from right out of left-field when probably not a single person in the country would've signed Crouch for Liverpool.

                        Now look at him.

I'd also argue Rafa did get the best out of him; unquestionably, in my view, Crouch was a success at the club and became an England regular, scoring a bundle of goals in the process. After the initial barren run his goalscoring record for LFC was very good and he also scored some big, important goals for us.

He took some preposterous abuse across the forums from Liverpool supporters. He was derided as '****' by an incredulous number of people. For me Crouch has shut them all the **** up.

                          Couldn't agree more

Frustrating when people say 'Crouch is ****' - there's not many players out there who have as good goals-to-games ratio.

Plus keeping Crouch wasn't an option, unless Rafa could guarantee him more play time, which he couldn't. Best to get £10m during the summer than nothing a year later.

Hope the lad does well for the rest of the season - shame he left really.

I love Crouchy, disappointed he's gone but he found himself out of favour so he's gone out and got himself a start every week, fair play to him, he could be happy rotting like Pennant but wants to carry on making something of himself.

So why sell him then? After not playing him that much?

I was just hypothesising by the way, I like Crouchy and would have liked him to get more time with Torres.

                                Wasnt to be.
