Adriano happy to be back with Flamengo [AFP]
RIO DE JANEIRO (AFP) — Striker Adriano said Thursday he was happy to be back with Brazilian side Flamengo after they re-signed their former star in the wake of his personal troubles with Inter Milan.
Inter rescinded the player's contract last month after he returned to his homeland citing citing depression and the need for a break.
"I'm happy to be back - it was a life choice and that choice is Flamengo," explained Adriano.
"There's nothing better than being back with Flamengo. I didn't leave (Inter) because I didn't feel happy at the club but because I didn't feel good in the country."
Adding to his problems while in Italy was a recent separation from his girlfriend.
Flamengo vice-president Kleber Leite had said late Wednesday that "everything is done and dusted" regarding a deal for the 27-year-old, who scored 74 goals in his eight years with Inter.
According to Flamengo's website Adriano will start training on May 18 after first resolving outstanding business in Italy.
There were no immediate details on either his salary - with Inter he was earning around 400,000 euros per month - or the length of his contract.
The forward joined Inter in 2001 though he had three loan spells - with Fiorentina for the first half of 2002, then Parma (late 2002 to January 2004) and finally Sao Paulo (in the first half of 2008).
He played 177 times for Inter, winning the Serie A title in 2006, 2007 and 2008 as well as two Italian Cups.
Adriano had disappeared from view since he was last seen in public sitting on the Brazil bench during an April 1 World Cup qualifying win over Peru though there were reports he had since spent time with friends in the rundown Rio suburb where he grew up.
Finished at the Nou Camp 3-3. Pep Guardiola wasn't too pleased. Fernandes and Llorente scored late in the second half to halt the party in Catalunia.
Another cracking match in La Liga at the Vicente Calderon. Atletico beating lowly Espanyol 3-2. Forlan scoring the winner in injury time to add to his earlier goal. Kun Aguero also scoring for the home side. Nene and Sanchez for the visitors. Atletico stay fifth, Espanyol are fourteenth.
Milan were held by Juventus in a must win match to have any sort of outside chance to win the Scudetto. Seedorf opener was cancelled by Iaquinta. Sissoko is still injured.
Barca suffer Iniesta blow
Spain star ruled out of Copa del Rey and a doubt to face United
10th May 2009
Barcelona's Andres Iniesta is in a race against time to be fit for the UEFA Champions League final after being ruled out of the Copa del Rey with a thigh muscle tear.
The Spain midfielder sustained the problem in Sunday's 3-3 Primera Liga draw with Villarreal at Camp Nou.
Barca are set to examine the extent of Iniesta's injury on Monday and will then announce how long the 25-year-old is facing on the sidelines.
The playmaker will definitely miss Wednesday's Copa del Rey final with Athletic Bilbao, but his club are hopeful he will be fit to face Manchester United on 27th May.
"I don't have a good feeling," said manager Pep Guardiola.
"We will do tests tomorrow, but there is no way he will play this week.
"We will try to get him fit for Rome - that's all we can do. We will have what the tests reveal."
Barca are already without suspended duo Dani Alves and Eric Abidal, while Thierry Henry is struggling to be ready for the Rome showpiece after suffering knee ligament trouble.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
