    Defoe

A lot of fuss about not a lot imo.

Portsmouth have accepted a bid from Tottenham to sign their 26-year-old striker Jermain Defoe.

The deal, which is expected to be in the region of £15m, sees Defoe return to the club he left under one year ago.

Harry Redknapp originally lured Defoe from White Hart Lane to Pompey for about £7.5m in 2008 when the Spurs manager was in charge at Fratton Park.

"Portsmouth can confirm a fee has been agreed with Tottenham for Jermain Defoe," read a statement from Pompey.

Any deal for Defoe would also have to take into account monies owed to Tottenham by Portsmouth in deals for Younes Kaboul and Pedro Mendes. 606

Defoe had also been linked with moves to Manchester City and Aston Villa.

Redknapp is also keen to sign a left-sided midfielder in the current transfer window, but Middlesbrough have already rejected a £6m bid for Stewart Downing from Spurs.
    Oh I don't know.

80 odd goals in over 200 appearances. Not good enough and certainly not worth the fuss

I'd be made up if I was a Pompey fan. Getting double what you paid for a pretty average player is good business. The only worry for them would be getting a replacement at a not jacked up price. I think if they keep hold of Crouch a lot of forwards could do a comparable job to Defoe for them.

Awful business from Spurs - think Harry must go a bit lightheaded when he's actually got money to spend.

I actually quite like defoe, always thought he has looked a good 'striker' but if thats his goal scoring record i'm quite shocked. I knew he was never prolific but thought he had scored more than that - a few years ago he always looked sharp, and i think he has good technique when shooting and seems to be a decent 'natural finisher' - Never a superstar but outside the top four he would probably be getting a game for every other team in the league.......that said though i had never realised his goalscoring average was so low.

1 in 2.5 games isn't that bad. The thing is though that he is a streaky striker and those are his stats after a good run at Pompey. I think if he plays more games it will go back to closer to 1 in 3. He also adds bugger all to general play.

According to BBC he's scored 142 in 245 starts with 104 appearances as a sub. I would have thought a lot of those sub appearances came when he was at Spurs too and just getting the last 5 or 10 mins every week so his record is actually quite impressive going off that.

This transfer sums up Spurs in my opinion.

Buying back a player for double what they sould him for only one year ago.

                      Complete madness.

I wonder who Tony Adams will buy with the money available from Defoe and Diarra. He needs a creative midfielder and another striker.

From what I heard on the radio this morning, he will not be getting the money from either sale. They still owe money on some of their purchases, and have a ridiculously high wage bill. The owner is trying to get out.
