Apparently Gary O'Neill wants to return to Pompey so that would be a start, he's a good player."Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Not sure much of that money will be available to him though hence the need to sell. Wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of loan deals there.Originally posted by Ben Tover View PostI wonder who Tony Adams will buy with the money available from Defoe and Diarra. He needs a creative midfielder and another striker."My commitment to Liverpool is 100 per cent. I would die for that Liverpool shirt. I imagine he will get some - for the simple reasons that the money for staying in the PL is vital to them and any hope the owner has of selling the club.Originally posted by Reggie View PostFrom what I heard on the radio this morning, he will not be getting the money from either sale. They still owe money on some of their purchases, and have a ridiculously high wage bill. The owner is trying to get out.
Exactly the sort of signing I would expect - PL experienced much cheaper than the sold players and who are unhappy and hence will probably not be looking for big wages.Originally posted by Marky View PostApparently Gary O'Neill wants to return to Pompey so that would be a start, he's a good player."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Apparently they were singing his name the other day.Originally posted by Darkon View PostSpurs fans must be hitting themselves over this one!
From a business persepective, as I and others have said, it's dreadful from Spurs but he could turn out to be a good signing. He seemed to get goals when he was there last time and there certainly isn't the same competition for a place.

I think there's a good chance they'll go this season.

The thing is that you have to accept that the change in regime has a big effect on the way a club values players and it is clear that Redknapp both rates Defoe and gets the best out of him. The combination of Harry + Defoe is probably worth more than Defoe alone (if you see what I mean). They are paying a premium but they do need to rescue their season and Defoe teaming up with Redknapp is a better gamble than bringing in yet another player from abroad who will have to adapt. There are very few good (financial) value deals done between PL clubs in the January windows.Originally posted by Matt View PostApparently they were singing his name the other day.

Out of those 200 appearances, about 60 were as a sub i think, where he came on near the end of the game.Originally posted by Dalglish View Post80 odd goals in over 200 appearances. Not good enough and certainly not worth the fuss
Defoe's a good player, he offers one of the most simple formulas in football - if he plays, he will score goals.
Same as the likes of Owen, Crouch etc.
Selling him for £7.5m and then buying him back for £15m a year later however, is **** business.Last edited by Craig_H; 06-01-09, 04:54 PM.
