    West Ham complete Nsereko signing

    By Simon Austin [BBC]

West Ham have signed Brescia striker Savio Nsereko and will confirm his capture later on Monday.

The Uganda-born German will be a direct replacement for Craig Bellamy, who moved to Manchester City last week.

The fee for Nsereko, 19, has not been revealed but it is expected to be a club record, topping the £7.5m West Ham paid Liverpool for Bellamy in 2007.

Hammers technical director Gianluca Nani worked with the Germany Under-19 international when he was at Brescia.

The forward can play in a variety of attacking positions and was named player of the tournament at last year's Uefa Under-19 Championship in the Czech Republic, which was won by Germany.

He was also reported to have attracted interest from Italian giants Roma and Juventus.

Nsereko has scored three goals in 17 appearances for Serie B side Brescia this season.

His signing will reassure fans who had feared the Londoners would only be a selling club during the January transfer window.

Owner Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson has been beset by financial problems in recent months and is considering selling the club.

But other than Bellamy, who was determined to leave Upton Park, West Ham have only sold fringe players Matthew Etherington, Lee Bowyer and Hayden Mullins.

Meanwhile, both the Hammers and Juventus have quashed speculation that Carlton Cole could be about to move from east London to Turin.

"We are very happy with the players we have in the team and we will not make any moves in the January transfer market," said Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco.

Seems a lot of money for them to spend on someone who has scored only 3 goals in Serie B.

Seems insane that they are spending money at all.

They'll probably sell him to City in the summer for £20m.

We were linked with him back in 2006 if I remember rightly. Seems odd that he's gone for that much, must be a special talent for 10 mil at 19. - although 3 in 23 suggests otherwise.

                  Kuyt and Cole to Juve?

The rest of Seria A will be quaking in their little Gucci boots.

As for the West Ham signing the fee seems excessive for such a young player and it is rather dangerous to be pinning your hopes on an unproven talent. Hope it works out for them as Zola seems like a good sort.

A very good friend of mine is an agent and offered this lad to West Ham for £1m last year but they were not interested... He's pretty pissed off about it, but then very bemused that they have spent so much on him!

Ex-West Ham player Savio Nsereko has apparently done a runner from LegaPro side Juve Stabia; no one's seen or heard from him for a week.

I guess it depends how much they fleeced Fiorentina for when they sold him. Pretty woeful signing however you look at it though.

At international level, Nsereko won the 2008 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship with Germany. He made his U19 debut on 7 September 2007, winning the Netherlands.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
