Has Messi ever really excelled at a major international championships or in a big CL game? I'm not claiming he hasn't, just that I can't remember him doing so. He flattered to deceive against United last year in the CL for example.

firstly i'm not sure, he prbably has though - secondly i may be wrong but iirc i remembering thinking during those games against the mancs, that barca as a whole were ****e, and that messi looked like the only player they had and the only threat to united.

See I disagree with that. I though he was the only one in the Barca team who did actually perform, and he was let down be is team mates playing really poorly.

In terms of pure skill Messi is definitely the best in the world at the moment.

And he was just back from injury for last years match against the Scum if I recall correctly aswell as playing in what was (by their standards) a poor Barca team.

The thing is he did play better than his team mates but never made a chance or looked like scoring. I was referring to doing something meaningful in a game.
