Facts from the Man United - Barca games:
            Barcelona 0 - 0 United
            United 1 - 0 Barcelona

Goals for Messi 0, Assists for Messi 0

And Vidic was missing for the second game.

            Consider my argument now factful

              That's the key isnt it?

All the true greats of all time can point to at least ONE major international finals where they've shone.

Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Brazilian Ronaldo, Zidane, Moore, Lineker, Charlton, Baggio, Romario, Figo, Muller, Beckenbauer, Matthaus, Platini, Van Basten, Zico...the list is endless and they've all delivered on the biggest stage of all.

That's what Messi needs to do, and then he'll have ticked every box and will go down in history as one of the legends of the game.

I might be wrong and you might watch a lot of spanish football, but i think most people who think that Ronaldo is better, havent seen a lot of full 90 minute La Liga games featuring Messi.

I haven't watched that many games, that is a fair assesment. I'm more going on what Ronaldo achieved last year and the fact that not only does he have the tricks, goals and freekicks but also the ariel ability, dangerous delivery, etc.

I hate him but he is a very special player (not that Messi isn't).

                    - i think he will - i do believe he missed the world cup through injury, or was injured but picked and wasn't really fit enough to play in the last world cup?

also messi could well have been a superstar in the copa america and we'd never know cause noone watches it haha

I think Ronaldo would be the better in the prem, but Messi better in La Liga. Ronaldo is taller and stronger so better equipped to coe in England.

Equal billing for me, dependant on which country they were playing in. On the international stage both have flattered to decieve, though in qualifying Ronaldo has eclipsed Messi.

In terms of sheer categories of play (eg, aerial threat, physical strength etc) ronaldo probably can tick more of those boxes, but the brilliance of Messi is that he doesnt actually need to be brutishly strong or a demon in the air.

He's unplayable anyway, even though he's more 'lightweight' and smaller. He's just freakishly unbelievably good.

Messi gets assaulted on a regular basis in Spain but still destroys opponents with his ability. Ronaldo gets a fraction of what Messi does, in terms of opponents trying to batter him, but he moans and whinges non stop.

Messi actually DOES get brutal treatment and just gets on with it. He barely whinges, whines or dives.

Regarding qualification, i think it's partly down to Argentina having so many qualifiers (and more really weak opponents in their group than Portugal would do in their's) that they (messi included) barely need to get out of second gear to qualify. Consequently, i dont think they really need to turn it on much.
