If we had a better coach the Joe Corrigan maybe he would have been a great servant to the club rather than a good one. I remember him being referred to as Bad Friedel quite a bit before he moved on.Originally posted by Assassin View PostIt was well deserved, he was a good servant to the club. A very good goalkeeper

But he never really got a chance. I wouldn't exactly call him a good servant to the club, he did nothing wrong but then he did nothing more than I would have expected of a reserve keeper.Originally posted by tsb View PostIf we had a better coach the Joe Corrigan maybe he would have been a great servant to the club rather than a good one. I think the general concensus is that it was a penalty and that the letter of a law meant a red card is the result. But that it is one of those where a bit of common sense should have been used and a better punishment would have been just the penalty and maybe also a yellow card.Originally posted by Riddler View PostSo has the penalty been deemed a non penalty ? or an accidental penalty ? or what ?
But at 4-0 it made no difference to the outcome and so has been brushed under the carpet.Forwards.......

How many times has Guzan played?Originally posted by Angry Dan View PostI have a few villa supporting mates and all of them prefer Guzan.
Friedel has been poor recently and they all wanted him dropped a few games ago.
I really think that people under estimate the value of experienced keepers. Even off form I'm glad they have Friedel. The problem is that the defence in front of him looks terrible. I just hope the international break is better for Villa than United. If I was a supporter of either team i would be welcoming the break."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I got into a huge heated online debate with my Manc mate .. he initailly implied Torres dived .. which obviously I pointed out was a load of bollix ... he reluctantly agreed he did not dive.. he then went on to say he left a leg in or he knew what he was doing ... I disagreed .. It is not like Torres made a beeline for Brad ... BF was off his line .. did not account for the pace of Torres and I think he actually leans into Torres as in makes a movement towards torres and takes him out ...
You could say he could not get out of the way ... sure .. but if you look at the replay again .. he actually moves towards Torres .. to make sure he takes him out ..
Red Card should have stood .. glad it has not .. but it was a perfectly good sending offAnybody who criticizes Klopp ever is a James Blunt. Nov 2015

I kind of agree with you Nicey but I also think that O'Neill made a valid argument that there was enough grey there with Reo-Coker coming back to allow the referee to not give a red. The letter of the law means that Friedel did prevent a goal scoring opportunity without getting the ball but the spirit of the game would suggest he deserved some leniency as he was trying to get out of the way and there was little he could do once Torres touched the ball."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
