    A Theory

With all the stuff about Ferguson's influence on referees and their fear of upsetting him, leading to them not getting appointed for the big games etc, i was having a think back to the time a few years back when Ferguson announced that he'd be retiring at the end of that season.

Was it also a season where the mancs won nothing?

    Coincidence? Probably.

Any possibility that ferguson's announcement of impending retirement led to less worry from the refs about upsetting him and therefore, less favourable decisions for the mancs and consequently, no league title?

Just a thought. As i said, quite probably, it was a just a coincidence.

    Wasnt it?

Around when Ferguson was rumoured to have had enough and calling for retirement when Arsenal and Chelsea were reigning supreme, there was a feeling amongst United fans that Carlos Queiroz was picking the system and had a huge say in the transfers as United wanted to groom the assistant to take over as manager. This obviously proved unsuccessful as United had a barren spell of three years without a league.

The day Ferguson retires, is the day football will be at a level playing field. No constant berating and barraging of referees, no bullying tactics against the media and the FA. What it could also mean is that we might have the loose membership of the so-called top four.

Chelsea? I'm sure they weren't reigning supreme in around 2001 and 2002 - if that's when you were on about.

Also, I dont think a post Ferguson Utd will allow themselves to be pushed off the top as easily as we did after Kenny left.
