    Adebayor: It's about money

Emmanuel Adebayor has risked alienating himself from Arsenal fans following an interview serialised in the Daily Mail where he suggested at this stage in his career, money is all important.

The Togolese striker is asked by the BBC Africa Sports editor, Farayi Mungazi: ‘How important is money to footballers? A lot of them say it is not about the money. Is that true?’ to which the player, heavily linked with a move to AC Milan and Barcelona, replied:

“It is not true, it is about money.”

“You are talking about in life and it is about money. When we are young, of course we played because we loved the game, we play because we were passionate about the game.”

“But now as soon as you reach a stage where you are professional and playing Champions League, after all those things we are talking about money.”

If it is not because of money, what am I going to be playing for Arsenal for? If it is not because of money I don't think I would go to Arsenal to play. I would stay in my country, I would stay Lome where everyone loves me.”

If its not because of money, I would not have come to Europe.”

Adebayor has put in a string of below par performances recently and has at times looked disinterested. Last week the former Monaco striker revealed that he is in regularly contact with AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani.
    What a ****ing tool.

Honest, but clearly not motivated by playing at the top level and winning things.

Surely once you have a few million, it stops mattering. I very much doubt many top players are doing it for the money, it's about the glory and medals.

But for the likes of Adebayor and Robbie Savage it is all about the money/lifestyle.

                What a bellend.

I hope Wenger drops him again on Saturday against the Mancs and plays Vela and Arshavin up front.

Didnt he lead the Togo players revolt at the last world cup about bonus payments too? Surely playing in a world cup is enough.

In his defence though people in Africa with his amount of riches become almost demi-gods and have unbelievable power and influence. It's all about the money.

well TBH, i don't see a lot wrong with what he said...he came to europe because he would earn more here, if he could have earned the same amount back home, he would have stayed there.

and being a profesional is not about lovning your club, what we have with stevie, carra and to some extent torres is a rare comodity in today's game. when you're a profesional you do the job, and get paid, that's about it.

It's more the fact that, for him, it's about money, not glory or trophies.

                    Sad state of affairs.

You do have to bear in mind his English isn't as good as someone like Car.... errr Stev.... errr Rafa's.

He might just have meant money is important for an African player coming to Europe etc. Bit harsh to make judgements based on that article.

Your point being? Motivation for many footballers who come from difficult backgrounds can be financial - completely understandable. He is a **** player so good luck to him for making **** loads of money for his 'talents'.

Yes, but I don't think it's clever to upset the fans, that's all.
