    Wenger: Madrid job

Arsene Wenger has done little to kill speculation that he could be poised for a summer move to Real Madrid by admitting that if Florentino Perez wins the Spanish club’s election then the Bernabeu job would be a ‘strongly interesting’ proposition.

Perez announced his candidacy for the top job at Real during the week and the architect of the galacticos era is reported to be keen on bringing Wenger to the Bernabeu, having failed with a previous attempt to lure him from Arsenal in 2003.

Wenger remains contracted to The Gunners until 2011 and has always underlined that he will never walk out on the club that introduced him to English football in 1996.

But the Frenchman has for the first time been the subject of real criticism from some supporters after a fourth consecutive season without a trophy and has hardly ruled out a possible move to Spain.

"With Perez the project will be strongly interesting for every coach," he told Telefoot.

"In general I always go right to the end of my contract.”

When asked directly if he had spoken with Perez, Wenger replied: “Allow me to remain discreet on that matter.”

    Is he off?

Wenger is pissed off with the Arsenal fans for their 'impatience'

Personally i think in terms of the future of the club he is doing a great job, bring in quality players on a smaller budget and keeping the club growing and developing. Arsenal are working for the future and with that stadium they will be a force soon.

However, IF he feels that he doesnt have the resources currently to compete with us and Man Utd then he may well leave rather than spend another 3 years keeping the board happy

Surely the philosophy of Madrid and in particular Perez will be to return to the 'Galacticos' era. How will Wenger feel about just buying top talent rather than developing it? Not sure he is the right man for Madrid.

Why do you say that? If they want Wenger it is highly unlikely they will want to return to the Galacticos era. I think they want a new era of winning things but with style which seems to be more important in Spanish football culture than here.

It is also clear that if Wenger leaves Arsenal it is because he is frustrated at not being able to complete the jigsaw that is his team - both in times of time to develop players but also funds to retain players when developed and buy in the two or three top players he needs.

Like, if he goes to Madrid, Fabregas.
            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I think Wenger can legitimately claim to have had a hand in his development.

I see your point. The difference is that I feel Wenger would be interested in having the ability to get players that would help him play the style he wants rather than the Galacticos methodology of getting the biggest name players in and leaving the problem of making them play in a coherent team to the coach. I think even in Spain the lack of success of that policy in terms of winning major competitions has been noted.

I wonder what would happen to Arsenal without Wenger?

Matters very little as there is no such thing as a long term project in Spain. If he doesn't start winning straight off the bat then he will be gone in two years.

Massive collapse. Most of their youth setup would be gone and they would be left with a very young and messy setup and would cost any other manager a fortune to compete. IMO of course.

If left and they got a new Manager it would be just great to see Arsenal hoofing the ball again just to show their new generation of fickle fans what they used to play like before Wenger came along.

I take it Juande Ramos has lost all his mojo then?
