He had little money to spend and had to cut wages and the age of the team and has a record in the CL second to noone outside the big European leagues I would suspect. For my money he did a decent job. People can have a go at Strachan all they like about whether it was already set up for him or not but the fact is that he DID guide them to 3 league titles in a row and he got them punching above their weight in the champions league too. 3 leagues out of 4 is a good record. He has not had any money to invest in order to compete in the CL but he did everything asked of him domestically. He lost this season but I don't see why he couldn't regain the title next season. I think he is walking out because once again the Board are not giving him any real cash to improve the squad.
As for Owenie- As much as he may be tempted by the Celtic job he has come along way in the last 2 years and I can't see why he would throw away this shot at the prem. In little over a year he has gone from Scottish first division to managing in the Premiership.
Thats a hell of an achievement and there is no way he would walk out on Burnley where the fans worship him and he gets to go head-to-head against Benitez, Wenger and Ferguson
Regardless I think Celtic will go for an older more experienced manager anyway. If they go for a young manager them perhaps Paul Lambert might be an outside bet (if they are cheap)Comment
