    Newcastle United

With the season now over it is safe to say that this has been one of the worst seasons in the clubs history. The club has had problems at all levels from board room to the players.

Mike Ashley arrived with a lot of expectation and installed Big Sam as manager who has a proven track record of turning clubs around, however due to fan pressure he did not last long with the low point being last seasons game against us when he was heckled by his own fans with the phrase "you dont know what your doing". I am sure Blackburn fans will disagree this season.

Sam left and the fans were calling for the return of the serial quitter that is King Kev who lived up to his reputation by leaving the club after a few months due to control over signings and a feud with Dennis Wise. The fans were up in arms against Ashley and the " Cockney mafia" Keegan leaving at the start of last season was a blow they never recovered from. Appointing Joe Kinnear could have worked but his health again took its toll so he didn't last too long either and will be most remembered for his rant against the media.

Then when the club was in serious danger of relegation from the Premiership fans pressure reared its ugly head again on the board who made the biggest mistake in its recent history by appointing a man who had zero experience in management and was proclaimed the new messire (bit like life of brian) in fact you would think that the life of brian extras were all played by newcastle fans. In his 8 games he managed to win 1 game and had almost zero effect which saw Newcastle go out of the premership with a whimper.

With the season over Newcastle need to talk serious stock of the season that has just unfolded and prepare for life in the championship. The whole club from players to management needs a overhaul which needs to be headed up by a manager who has experience in the championship dog fight which is no easy league and is one of the most competitive leagues in world football. They should be looking at managers like Steve Coppell or Alan Curbishley who will give Newcastle the best chance to get back into the premier League , However instead of using common sense it looks like Alan Shearer will be staying on which IMO is yet another nail in the Geordie coffin.

A lot of players who are on mega money will leave and Newcastle need to get it spot on in the summer with regards to new players because if they don't things will only get worse. Mike Ashley and the board need to stop listening to the fans and take control of his investment and do what is best for the club. No one can say Newcastle did not deserve relegation as the league never lies and you could also say that the signs have been there for the past few years but the warning signs were ignored mainly due to arrogance as they took premiership status for granted.

The whole mentality of the club needs to change from the board to the fans. Either way their fall from top 4 to championship is funny none the less.

Always good to have a laugh at them and see it is totally self inflicted.

I wonder who will be left there at the start of the season? I imagine all the players who managed to still have a bit of credability will jump ship

Apparently someone offered to buy Newcastle in exchange for a Curly Wurly.

In the long term I think relegation will be good for them. They can finally get back to basics and a season out of the limelight might steady the ship a bit.

I think that is unfair actually - they were coasting along heading for relegation anyway. Given that no one wanted the job when they offered it to Kinnear what other option did they have. They went for Shearer to at least give them a psychological boost - it was a desperate gamble but it was a desperate position with few other options - does anyone really believe Houghton was the man to save them? The fact that the damage had been done before Shearer got there wasn't his fault - if anything they should have bought him in as soon as Kinnear became unwell.

I don't see why an experienced manager would do them any better actually. They have Dowie as Shearer's assistant and has been there and done it at that level. Shearer really cares and will treat it as a long term project there are no guarentees that anyone else would do the same. Coppell seems to want out of football and I don't think that Curbishley has the personality to take on the Newcastle job.

I thought Dowie was an odd choice for the PL relegation struggle as there was a definite danger of 'too many cooks' given the short period of time they had to organise a team and get used to working together. In teh Championship I think he will be a big asset.

I think Newcastle have to hope it is true that the players on big money leave. They are ****ed if they stay but how many people would be willing to pay big money to the likes of Butt, Nolan, Barton & Duff. Owen obviously will go at the end of the season and Martins is a genuinely salable asset.

I don't think anyone would disagree with that (well maybe some Geordies).
