    2026 World Cup

Tournament kicks off today and we don't have a thread for it yet.

Not sure what the feeling on the forum is about this WC, personally I'm not hugely into international football, but will end up watching mostly as a neutral but supporting some LFC and former LFC players that are there.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Like you I'm not really interested in International football. I can't remember the last game I actually watched. I might watch some highlights of shock results, but doubt I will watch any live, not even the final. Although I might have a look at Yan Diomande playing for Ivory Coast, purely to see if he's worth the astronomical price tag

Today?!! No way. Thought it would be on Sunday or next week. Anyway, had already decided to boycott it so clearly that's working.

We are going to visit my in laws for a two and a half weeks later this month, my father-in-law will almost certainly have it on, so I will inevitably catch some of it then, but am very 'meh' about it at the moment

I don't care about international football at the best of times but 3 world cups in a row in political hell holes has killed any care I had.

3 red cards in the opening game, almost wish I'd watched it now

              It wasn’t a great game

1st and 3rd red for me - especially the third that wasn't a bad challenge because it wasn't a 'challenge'. It was just a deliberate stopping of the attacker and if you do that as last man... its red. The second one an absolute farce of a red card.

I just watched the highlights. No way was the third a denial of a goalscoring opportunity, far too wide and going towards the touchline when contact was made, with players in the middle of the box.

Think I would agree more with Dave on this one, the 1st was clear cut, the third had no attempt at the ball, and the covering defenders were too central to get across to stop the shot coming in. Ok, the attacker isn;t central, but he could definitely have got a clear shooting chance. Plus the tackle itself was almost worthy of a red. The second tho, why did VAR even intervene, that was in no way a punch to the face or violent at all.
