    Gary Ablett

Former Liverpool FC and Everton FC defender Gary Ablett has been named as the new manager of Coca-Cola League One club Stockport.

The 43-year-old, who left his post as Liverpool FC's reserve team manager in May, beat off competition from former Celtic and Northern Ireland midfielder Neil Lennon to land the post.

Jim Melrose, who is heading a consortium which is on the brink of completing a takeover of the Edgeley Park club, said: "After a lengthy process I am delighted to announce the appointment of Gary Ablett as the new manager of Stockport County.

"Gary has a fantastic pedigree, having enjoyed a career at the very highest level and he has a big reputation for the quality of his coaching at Liverpool and Everton over the last few years."

It'll be interesting to see how he gets on. I think Stockport are supposed to have a decent youth setup so I imagine the work he did with us and Everton will have been a big factor in him getting the job.

Does anyone know if there were specific reasons for him being let go from us? I can imagine that Rafa may have just wanted a top to bottom overhaul of the levels below the first team but on the basis he was appointed by Rafa I would have thought he would have been one of the last in line for the boot.

Quite a few were in the frame for this job, Neil Lennon, ian Dowie and John Hartson. Stockport have been blessed with a few raw youngster and Jim Gannon threw them in over the last few seasons. It remains to be seen if someone else can and do the same. Gannon was also familiar with Stockport and surrounding teams so he could pick up a few bargains on the way.
I really don't think Ablett will do that and he will try and poach a few youngsters from Liverpool and Everton which I doubt will work.
I make no apologies, this is me

Rumor was that he was a Parry appointment than a Rafa appointment. Also Mcmohan seems to be a better coach.
