I don't think Martinez will be the first to go as a former Wigan player who is held in high esteem by the fans, even if they don't do too well I think they'll give him longer than they might have given someone else.

I'd go for Mark Hughes if city don't have a good start. Failing that Phil Brown

Just out of curiousity why is Martin O'Neill's job considered so safe? Is it because he's totally immune from critisism in the press, last season Villa fell apart and no one had a bad work to say about him.

If Hughes hasn't got Man City safely lodged in the top 6 by November he'll be gone. No value though.

        I like Ancellotti's price.

Hughes, he can only disappoint and have a whole new team to get together...

He's got a very good relationship with Lerner.

thats brilliant - the next portsmouth manager is one of the favourites to be sacked and he hasn't even been appointed hahaha

I do think hughes is ****ed - the money being thrown around will mean those without brains (the press) will be expecting City to win every game 5-0. A few unlucky draws here and there and one or two losses and by october if city are outside the top 6 hughes will get slaughtered by the press. Imo i'd be shocked if Hughes is there in january

The potential problem with Ancellotti is that if the market is for first manager SACKED and if Chelsea decide they want CA out, it'll officially be expressed as 'by mutual consent' or something, so i'm not sure if the bookies would pay out on that.

think they have done before sure the market is first to depart by any means its called the sack race as its more media friendly

My initial thought on seeing the thread was Hughes, but I don;t think it will be.

They backpedaled last year, which is to be expecting when a new manager is building, but these days it's not expected for owners to put up with it. I have a feeling they're going to give him time, he'll be safe.

I don't think Ancelotti. Chelsea have a bad history but they're aware how much of a joke it's becoming, they have to get some stability.

It definitely won't be Fergie. If ever it comes to that he'll just get the nudge "Time to retire and move to the board mate".

I'll say Steve Bruce purely because I can't stand the guy and would love it.

                        Paddy Power has it:

                        M Hughes 7/2
                        P Brown 5/1
                        A McLeish 6/1
                        G Megson 8/1
                        Next Permanent Portsmouth Manager 9/1
                        M McCarthy 14/1
                        H Redknapp 14/1
                        S Allardyce 14/1
                        O Coyle 16/1
                        R Martinez 18/1
                        T Pulis 20/1
                        C Ancelloti 22/1
                        R Benitez 22/1
                        R Hogdson 22/1
                        G Zola 22/1
                        S Bruce 22/1
                        A Wenger 25/1
                        M O' Neill 33/1
                        D Moyes 40/1
                        A Ferguson 50/1
It's so hard to tell now that newcastle aren't in the premiership.
                        Really?
