Judging on performances this season I'd take the big, mad Swede.

I think the thing is that Ibrahimovic might well remain a flat track bully but most teams represent flat tracks to Barcelona at the minute - the standard across Europe seems down on the last few seasons."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

£40m for Ibra I could just about understand but if you throw in Etoo your pricing the swede at around £70m. He may be a good player and is doing well but the deal was still madnessOriginally posted by Rich View PostAnyone still think Barca were mad?!
I thought it was a shocking piece of business but it looks like I was, along with most of you, wrong.
Early days yet but he's been outstanding - needs to prove it at the business end of the season but his winner against Real Madrid was absolute class.

That may be have been the case but what Ibra alows Barca is a different style of play, They can play both short and long, they can use out and out wingers or the delicate inter touch play with henry and Messi, he has Very been impressive thus far.Originally posted by Darkon View Post
E'too would have scored at least the same amount of goals in that team already...We come not to play.

I agree he has done very very well at Barca, but still don't think he was worth 40m and one of the the best strikers in the world! I mean the cash alone is more than we paid for Torres...Originally posted by Imy View PostThat may be have been the case but what Ibra alows Barca is a different style of play, They can play both short and long, they can use out and out wingers or the delicate inter touch play with henry and Messi, he has Very been impressive thus far.
Barca are playing well with Zlatan - but last year they won a treble with E'too, so how much can they really have improved?

I agree the price they paid was insane. Yes they were very successful last year but unlike our beloved club they did not rest on their laurels they went and improved on what they had. Getting rid of a an excellent goalscorer in Etoo and buying a more all round striker in Ibra, also shipping Etoo was I understand a political decision (He's a right mardy arse!).Originally posted by Darkon View PostI agree he has done very very well at Barca, but still don't think he was worth 40m and one of the the best strikers in the world! but look at what he is worth now!!! Torres was a bargain in hindsight obviously!Originally posted by Darkon View PostI agree he has done very very well at Barca, but still don't think he was worth 40m and one of the the best strikers in the world! There was an article in the Guardian (I think) about the Eto transfer. I can't find the link right nowas should be working but basically it went into details about how the Barca board and manager were desperate to get rid of Eto and the cash they paid Inter was effectively what it would have cost to pay off his contract or something like that!
Put it this way the transfer made a lot more sense when taking into account some of the background stuff and financial shenanigans going on.

There where talks about etoo not being the most popular figure at barca in the dressing room etc. so they probably had little choice but getting rid of him and found a very good replacement in Zlatan.Originally posted by Imy View PostI agree the price they paid was insane. But Inter really got the best out of barca considering Zlatan wanted away from Mourinho as well...

we did do very well on that deal, but it still provides some comparison considering E'too was a more proven goalscorer than Torres at the time, and would have required a more hefty fee alone.Originally posted by red g View Postbut look at what he is worth now!!!
