JEF United have fired coach Alex Miller after a dismal 2009 campaign that has left the club facing relegation.
The Scot arrived in Chiba in the middle of the 2008 season from his post as Liverpool assistant coach and steered the club to a dramatic escape from demotion on the last day of the season.
Unfortunately for the ex-Aberdeen boss, 2009 has been more of the same. After just four wins from 19 games this season, JEF are in 16th in the league.
Miller will be replaced by Atsuhiko Ejiri, who was on the coaching staff.
"This was a decision made after taking into account the results of all 19 games this season," said club president Hirokazu Miki, according to Kyodo News.
“Ejiri, the new manager, is familiar with team affairs and we can entrust the team's future to him looking at the long term."
Ejiri is looking forward to the challenge.
"Honestly, I feel I have no choice but to do the job," said Ejiri.
"Since I am taking over as manager, I want to create a winning team. In order to make that a reality I have to bring the players and staff together in a team effort."
"I never liked Chinkys anyway", said Miller.

Maybe we could bring him back?
