    Yes.
He is no better than average at present. But he is very young and will become better than average with time. And with him being given games at Everton I'm sure he'll crack it.

But you ave to be better than Rodwell to get in the squad at Liverpool.

If Rafa is wrong to decide that Hammill isnt first team material then so are all the premiership managers and those of the top Championship teams too as they arent trying to outbid Barnsley.
He's been on view for 2 years. He has not been guaranteed a starting place at Championship level even.

I went to see him with Hamilton once - full of confidence and well capable of succeeding at that level but maybe no more

Rodwell is easily better than all of our prospects at both CB and CM.

I didn't say he wasn't. I just said that you have to be better than him to make our squad.

Really? He'd be our 4th choice CB/CM, at the very least. He's better than Plessis and Spearing, and he'll be better than Lucas in a couple of years. IMHO.

Maybe I'm not making my point.

Rodwell is at a decent level now because he's been playing in Evertons first team. When he initially made the Everton first team squad, he would not have been good enough to make ours. Therefore he would not have improved so quickly to the level he is at now.

He made the Everton squad largely down to a high level of injuries, and stayed in due to a low level of ability squad wise in the Everton team. Had he been at Liverpool he would not yet have made the impact he has at Everton.

Take Insua as an example. He played in the Premier League about three years a go now and didn't look out of place. Had he been at a worse team he would have been playing first team footbaal for three years now, and no doubt would have been a better player than he is now, experience wise.

He's easily better than Rodwell at present. The problem with Lucas is that he is not in Xabis class. Had he been a local player he would have been forgiven more for his errors and would have had much more support.

At this point, Rodwell wouldn't have played a single game for our RESERVES, because we have about 20 CB's and CM's in there before him. He'd have never made it and given the chance to develop, ended up in The Championship and Mattshark would have said he never got a chance because he probably wasn't good enough!

I wasn't trying to say that their youngsters are miles better than ours the point I was making is over a number of years they have had Hibbert, Rooney, Rodwell, Anichebe, Vaughan - just off the top of my head.
Now if they aren't good enough to make it then we sell them on, my point was they have produced local youngsters so they have the choice to use them or to sell them. We haven't produced enough imo.

Rodwell is miles better than Spearing - 2-3 years younger and a England U21 international, physically imposing and would definetley (again imo) have featured under Rafa because he is better than Spearing and Plessis and both of those have had games.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

We've had plaenty of youngsters too, but whislt they would have made the Everton team they haven't been good enough for us. Guthrie and Warnock of the top off my head, Mellor too likely.

And Rodwells build gives him the advantage on Spearing, but what do you want rafa to do, get Jay on a stretching machine? If Jay can make it as a small lad, that shows that maybe the talent isn't all bad at the Academy.

Yeah, Rodwell would make the Brazil team wouldn't he .

Oh maybe he just isn't good enough for us and is for them and your comment about him being better than Lucas is beyond laughable.

If that was the case when he moved to the championship he would shine there and be quickly move on to the Premiership, because he would have the ability. We've let a number of players go in the position that you describe above and none of them have played above championship level.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
