Portsmouth's takeover saga took a new twist on Wednesday when a group led by chief executive Peter Storrie said they were "confident" of completing a deal to buy the club.
Pompey's owners accepted a bid from Dubai tycoon Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim in May but negotiations have stalled.
A club statement said Al Fahim could still partner the new consortium.
It added: "No further comment will be made by the club until any purchase is complete."
Portsmouth were forced to sell England internationals Glen Johnson and Peter Crouch this summer to reduce a reported debt of £44m and started the new Premier League season with a 1-0 home defeat by Fulham.
