    Sol Campbell to Notts County

    Notts County have confirmed the signing of Sol Campbell on a free transfer, with the defender revealing he has agreed a five-year deal.

    The ambitious League Two club, who were taken over by middle east consortium Munto Finance this summer, unveiled the 34-year-old former Tottenham, Arsenal and Portsmouth defender at a press conference at Meadow Lane on Tuesday afternoon.

    Magpies manager Ian McParland said: "Sol's record speaks for itself and he's achieved just about everything in the game.

    "He's a great player and a great organiser and his experience will be invaluable to our push for promotion this season.

    "We are very happy that he has taken on the challenge and we are looking forward to getting him settled into the team and seeing him pull on a Notts County shirt as soon as possible



    5 year contract for a 34year old, that must be unheard of!!!

          Good on them. Hope they do well and race up the leagues.

          Sven cops loads of **** for looking like a weird Scando...but he has tremendous amounts of pulling power. With both pro's and the ho's

            He is laughing all the way to the bank with that. 5 year playing deal at 34 is some achievement.

              My prediction, within 18 months, 24 at max Sven will have left along with the backers and Nott County will be in a dire financial situation. What the hell are they paying Sol? I guess he won't be the last big name. My fear is they're trying to run before they can walk. They've been in a financial mess for year's and only escaped meltdown by skin of their teeth. Will they ever be in a position to be self sufficient again once the high wage earners arrive? It has a Livingston feel about it.

              Thats my head, but my heart says it'd be great for the leagues oldest club to have some glamour and good times back again. Be nice to see Hamann and Rob Hulse joining.

                but its saudi backers isnt it? wasnt the livingston local money?

                they will walk the next 2 seasons imo and be in the championship and from there it will become more difficult.

                    Its quite obviously all about the money. They are idiots for giving him a 5 year deal whilst he is publically saying he's only going to play for 3 years

                    He talks about the long-term project yet he's not going to be around when and if they achieve their goal lol. Its crazy seeing a league two player on £40k per week. Wonder how his team-mates will feel?

                    Sven will def get bored in a year and leave, no doubt

                      Isn't he supposed to be a coach as well. Maybe that explains the length of the contract.
