I think it's fair to say the birth of the Premiership was a timely one as far as England is concerned.
Sweden the hosts and Denmark the tournament winners. Second in our qualification group to a Dutch team who came third in USA' 94, hardly a **** team. Them the days before play offs getting you out of jail. And the Dutch as it is very well known and remembered were very fortunate to beat us with a Ronald Koeman free kick, who should not even have been on the pitch.

I'm not convinced by your argument.

Actually, I'm wrong as we came third behind Holland and Norway, a team who drew every game in the world cup and went out at the group stages. But our lack of success in 92 and 94 was more than likely down in part to having a very poor manager in Graham Taylor.

We failed to qualify for the Euros just gone yet a change of manager and low and behold the same group of players are beating virtually every team they come up against.

That they won the tournament didn't make them any less modest. Greece won Euro 2004 and they were ****. Denmark didn't even qualify for the tournament by rights, only making up the numbers when Yugoslavia were booted out. Sweden, hosts or not, were very average.

In England's squad for that tournament were footballing greats such as Tony Daley, Keith Curle, Carlton Palmer, Andy Sinton, Neil Webb, Tony Dorigo, Trevor Steven, David Batty and Alan Smith. Those names alone say all you need to know about the state of English football at that time.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

But the point still stands that Denmark were a very good team at that tournament. And most host nations perform quite well, look at Japan and South Korea, or the USA.

As someone mentioned success comes and goes. We were rubbish in Euro 2000. Again, down to a rubbish manager. I think the biggest problem in 92 and 94 was that generation of players not having the experience of playing European football due to the Heysel ban. Other than Man Utd in the CwC it took a while for English teams to get used to playing different styles of football and continental referees.
