    john terry dead

John Terry, 65, was discovered dead outside his house in Mount Carey St James in Montego Bay on Wednesday afternoon, Go-Jamaica reported.

He was found with a cord tied around the neck, along with a piece of clothing, police told the news website.

It appeared he had been beaten as bloodstains were found at the premises, officials added.

A note was reportedly left on Mr Terry's bed but police would not divulge the details.

Mr Terry was the honorary British consul in Montego Bay.

News of his death has sent shockwaves across the business and tourism sectors, the Jamaica Gleaner news website reported.

Mr Terry had been in the industry for around 30 years, work which earned him an MBE from the Queen in 1992, the Gleaner added.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: "We can confirm the death of the British honorary consul on Montego Bay in Jamaica.

"Our sympathy is with the family at this difficult time.

"Jamaican police are investigating the circumstances of his death and we're in close touch with them."
