He was a top class high jumper who did pioneering work on both atomic theory and colour blindness and then went on to write 'Steptoe and Son' with Homer Simpson.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Tell that to the punters who had cash on the first throw, and who had it stolen of them by this idiot manipulating when the first throw was.

No i'm not one of them, wouldn't bet on something like that, but it applies across the board where gambling/betting is concerned, cheating is cheating, and it's the honest punter that loses out when people in positions of trust cheat in this way.

There will have been many fans of his club that will have betted on the first throw in, only for him to be involved in trying to cheat them, what a first rate idiot he is, and i don't buy this 'only did it once' ****e.

A first throw bet isn't a game of skill, it's a lottery. Nobody had it stolen from them.

Surely they did if the 'lottery' was rigged?

Le Tissier, who made over 500 appearances for the Saints, then explained that the longer the ball remained in play, the more money he stood to lose.

"I have never run so much in my life," said the Guernsey-born player. "

Sad thing for any professional footballer to admit!
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Wouldn't change the chance of winning though.

i remember a well known blackburn footballer in there heyday putting the ball into touch from the kick off for no reason whatsoever and man city fans will probably tell you that one of there recent players did unexplainable things with the ball for no apparent reason,
when you see the betting that goes on in the far east from floodlight failure to the first dead ball, you cant help believing that something sinister is afoot.
i've seen liverpool players do this aswell and always wondered what was going on. not seen them do it for a long time though.
