    Mr...is at it again

If it kicks off against Tevez he should be charged with Incitement...

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Sir Alex Ferguson has warned Carlos Tevez he is in for a nasty surprise if he thinks a good reception awaits him at Manchester United on Sunday.

Tevez spent two years with the Old Trafford outfit, during which time they won the Premier League title in successive seasons and reached two Champions League finals.

Yet the split came in acrimonious circumstances this summer.

Tevez accused Ferguson of disrespect, while the United boss continues to claim the South American had decided to leave the Red Devils long before the campaign reached its conclusion.

Providing he overcomes a knee injury, the former West Ham star returns to Old Trafford as a City player for the first time this weekend, hoping to receive a warm reception from the home supporters.

The mere thought brings a smile to Ferguson's face.

"He will get a surprise," said Ferguson.

"It is a different culture nowadays. It is very emotional."

Any goodwill for Tevez amongst the United faithful has disappeared after he became the central figure in a poster, erected at the end of Manchester's busy Deansgate shopping centre that declared: "Welcome to Manchester."

It played on City's claim to be the city's true club, given United's precise location is in the neighbouring borough of Trafford.

Ferguson felt it was a deliberate attempt to provoke United. And it seems to have worked.

"I'm sure of it," he said.

"That stupid poster upset us. It showed an arrogance. It was naughty. It showed a cockiness that wasn't required at the time because they hadn't done anything.

    "The season hadn't even started."

Ferguson is not convinced Mark Hughes even knew of its existence until the United camp started to make their displeasure known, which placed the Welshman in a difficult position.

"It probably came to his attention when I mentioned it," said the United chief.

"Some people run away with themselves. That put Mark in a position where he was being asked about it.

"He tried to brush it off. He said it was just 'a wee bit of devilment'. I think it was a wee bit of arrogance."

The row could easily have been avoided if only United had been a bit quicker coughing up the £24million required to turn Tevez's 'lease' arrangement with Kia Joorabchian into a permanent deal.

Quite apart from whether Tevez was worth the money, Ferguson is convinced there was no chance of such a move being satisfactory to either the player or Joorabchian.

"We made an offer that was well in the compass of the player's ability," he said.

"When I read now that it is not £24million, it is £47million, there is no way we could even think about that.

"I thought £24million was the figure. Obviously it wasn't. They had obviously agreed it long before the end of the season.

"That goes without saying because they never came back to us."

You know if there's one thing in this world, just one thing that could just slightly get me to have a teeny weeny bit of liking for the all new mega-rich Man Citeh... its Fergie.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
    Mine angry and defrauded young?

They are definately getting at him. He is obviously jealous at their spending power and his lack off. Regardless of the we dont need to pay over inflated prices (real reason the owners have confiscated the money from placcyt for other uses.

The **** about Tevez is ridiculous, he obviously didnt buy and have the poster set up.

I was thinking about this more in depth the other day.

Pre-season I know I said they wouldn't click right away but I don't think I could have been much more wrong.

I still reckon they'll finish 5th or 6th, but nowhere near certain any more.

The thing is, if the arabs have pulled this off so quick and so cheap, we're going to be seeing this a lot more often.

Take a 200m quid club, spend another 200m quid, sit back for a few years and you have a 600-700m CL / EPL championship club.

Once they have the glamour to go with the money the money will cease to be as important and they can get big players at sensible wages. Meanwhile they're running a loss with very good reason.

Especially if they keep up the academy which as never been exactly shabby.

I don't think they're necessarily looking so exhuberant spending all that cash anymore, it's looking like it could turn out to be a damn smart investment.

And in terms of "buying the league" is there really any difference between buying a 500m club and buying a 200m club then investing a further 200m to get it up to scratch?

I dunno, I could be off target, but that's the train my thoughts were starting to follow.

maybe I'm biased as I hate their biggest rivals, but I'm not begrudging them.

United will beat City. There's been a lot of talk about City being the new 'kids on the block' but I don't agree with this. They don't have the quality in depth to challenge until next May. And people have been quick to bury United after they lost Tevez and Ronaldo but they're doing pretty well at the moment.

I can't see us having much more depth, City have a good team with a good team and may well challenge the top 4 IMO. On top of that they don't have as many games as the other top sides so they don't need as many quality players.
              * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Your second point is valid but I doubt they've got the required quality to really challenge. They don't possess players such as Rooney, Gerrard/Torres, Drogba/Lampard, Fabregas/Van Persie. I consider Tevez and Adebayor to be very good players but not especially world class.

As for Robinho, he's an erratic and overrated Brazilian, lazy and temperamental who will achieve nothing at the top level. In short, City are a good bunch of players who will fight for 5th place alongside the likes of Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham*.

*Though I feel Tottenham are a much better team than City and may be the surprise package this season. They've impressed me.

And we've got the same strength in depth as last season, as we've replaced all the players who departed, that is Kyriagos->Sami, Johnson->Arbeloa and Aquilani->Alonso. So I can't see what's different.

We should have built on that and maybe bought more players but hey, that's another topic for another thread, which has already been debated to death anyway.

I think Mark Hughes has been a bit silly with his cocky and over-confident stance this week. He is missing a few of his best attackers and yet he is acting like he has no doubt about getting victory.

Man Utd will win because of Citeh's injuries and Hughes will look like a tit for getting cocky
