    John Barnes

    No suprise here..................

Skysports.com understands John Barnes has been sacked by Tranmere following a poor start to the season.

Barnes' future has been the subject of speculation for some time after a poor start to life at Prenton Park.

The former Celtic manager has seen his side pick up just seven points from eleven games and the midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Bury appears to have been the last straw for the Tranmere board.

Tranmere currently sit third from bottom of the table and fans have been unhappy with the impact of Barnes.

Barnes took over at Tranmere in the summer following the surprise departure of Ronnie Moore, but the former England international has failed to turn the club's fortunes around.

Tranmere will now begin the search for a new manager in earnest as they prepare for next Monday's game with Stockport, live on Sky Sports 1.

Poor Digger, gutted for him if true. He has a terrible run of results and even though it may seem a hasty decision I am not sure they had any other options sadly.

Shame for him but its not a hasty decision. Its the right decision, they have been in freefall since the minute he took over. He should stick to coaching which because of his skills he should be bloody good at.

He just doesnt look like he has any authority about him and clearly isn't suited to managing other people

Didn't they just miss out on the play offs last season on the last day or something? Based on that, it did seem crazy to get rid of Ronnie Moore.

Feel bad for Digger though. One of my boyhood heroes when he was in his pomp.

think it was on the last day or not far of.

he was a legend there as well, did a great job. Seduced by the big name.

Digger should take the Rafa route after being sacked a couple of times.....go learn off a few masters and come back in a year or two....sure he could teach babel a thing or two

I think they wanted to cut costs and I imagine that Moore dug his heels in and basically forced the decision forseeing what happened this season with Barnes. I'm not sure that getting a big name rather than someone experienced at that level was the right way to go for them. certainly they should have made him get an experienced assistant.

Tranmere have sacked manager John Barnes and assistant boss Jason McAteer after a run of just two league wins from 11 matches.

The club are 22nd in League One and were knocked out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday.

"Unfortunately results have not gone our way this season and we are at the wrong end of the table," chairman Peter Johnson told the club website.

"We must now focus on finding the best possible candidate."

Physio Les Parry has been placed in temporary charge and will be assisted by reserve boss Shaun Garnett.

"I urge all supporters to get behind Les, Shaun and the team on Monday when we play at home to Stockport County."

They've put the physio in charge?

I love Barnes, he was/is a big hero of mine and played a major part in my happiest times as a Liverpool fan, but clearly management isnt his thing, he's failed to succeed at any managerial role he's had.

I thought he was doing well with Jamaica no?

Depends how you mean by 'well' though mate.

They reached round 3 of 4 qualification rounds, and have been eliminated from the world cup.

The thing is you have to have some idea of the quality of the Jamaican team/squad relative to those they compete against to judge that which I'm certainly not in possession of. If I remember right he was great for Celtic when he had Larsson and ****e when he didn't. Given he had a limited time in charge and hence little time to develop or buy a squad that relied on him less. So I'd say while he didn't do well he probably shouldn't be slated for it.

That said I really think he should have gone to what ever level he could have got a job and worked his way up - more in the way Nigel Clough or O'Neill did. He was out of the loop for a long time and it has to have an effect even if it is more on your judgement of what is required at different levels and your knowledge of players.

He certainly doesn't seem a natural but you would expect a manager earlier in his career to have some failures.

I dont think any management job he's done can be described as a success.

Although, to be fair - his Jamaica side finished 3rd out of 4 in their group, but had the same points as Mexico, who finished ahead of Jamaica on nothing but goal difference.

In fact, every game in the group (which featured Canada, Mexico, Honduras and Jamaica) was a home win, other than Canada's home games, which saw 2 draws and one away win.

Honduras won their game away in Canada, which enabled them to finish on 12 points, and effectively won them the group, while both Jamaica and Honduras drew their away games to Canada and those 2 dropped points for each of them led to them both finishing on 10 points.

Mexico finished on 10 points with a +3 goal difference, while Jamaica had 10 points and an even goal difference. Painfully for them, their game away to Mexico ended in a 3-0 defeat - which equates to a 6 goal swing for Jamaica and Mexico.
