I heard that Spurs' plans for the Olympic stadium involve knocking most of it down in order to rebuild something else for a cost equivalent to 100 new primary schools.

I'm looking forward to hearing Gray and Keys attack this as a sign that "the game's gone mad."
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

True, but it is right in the East End, West Ham territory and even closer to Leyton Orient.

It should just stay as the national athletics stadium IMO.

If Spurs and AEG are paying for it, is that a problem?
        Oh I don't know.

To me it shows how skewed our priorities are as a society. It's f*cking crazy.

Rebuilding a stadium does include a huge cost in terms of carbon footprint. Then it doesn't make any ****ing sense, why weren't the interested parties brought into this earlier?
            Are we winning?

No problem at all, so long as they pay back the tax payers for the stadium they intend to knock down.

I agree that makes a difference but it's still a massive waste of resources.

Was just about to say something along them lines................think Karen Brady was very smart correlating the cost of the stadium with a 100 new schools/public buildings etc etc.
Sends a message out there is these rather frugal times it must be said.

And will they pay for the costs of decontaminating the site in the first place? I haven't checked but I bet that won't be included.

So I guess you don't want LFC to move either?

That was for the Olympics, which happened regardless of a football club moving to the site. Nothing to do with Tottenham.
                      Oh I don't know.

I really don't see the complication.

Yes, I'd like Liverpool to have a big stadium.

Yes, I think it's a waste of resources to build a stadium, use it twice, knock it down and build another one, while refurbishing another stadium somewhere else to make it a bit like the one you've just knocked down.

I also think paying footballers more for a day than many get in a year is obscene and an indictment of the society we live in. Do I think Liverpool should refuse to pay wages like that even though many other clubs do? No. But it does leave a nasty taste when you think about it.

I agree with the sentiment, but if you and I are not paying for it (apart from to attend the odd Bon Jovi / Beyonce gig), then I don't have a problem with it.

We are though, we're all paying for the stadium Spurs intend to knock down, that for me is an utter disgrace, so i say don't let them do it unless they pay the FULL cost.

We're not paying for them to knock it down though. There was some money set aside in the original budget for legacy costs, as you would expect. They would make up the shortfall, along with AEG.

In terms of economics, there is nothing disgraceful about that.

However, if you want to talk about the promised legacy to athletics, then you may have a point.

Not sure what you mean not paying to knock it down, are they repaying the full cost of what it cost the tax payer to build ?

If they are, then i'll go with the lack of a promised 'Legacy' point, bloody disgracefull!
