    Brown might return to Tigers
KC Stadium hierarchy in no rush to make decision on boss
    Last updated: 25th April 2010

Hull City executive chairman Adam Pearson has revealed that Phil Brown could return as manager at the KC Stadium.

The Tigers are as good as relegated from the Premier League after Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Sunderland and planning is therefore under way for next season.

Brown was placed on gardening leave in March with 15 months of his £1.4million-a-year contract remaining and Iain Dowie was appointed as Hull attempted to act proactively in their fight against the drop.

But the tactic has had little impact and, with Dowie's future uncertain, Pearson has admitted that there is still a possibility that Brown will be reinstated in the summer.

The KC Stadium supremo said in The People: "There is no rush to employ a new manager or bring back Phil Brown and tell him what his budget is next year and what he can spend.

"Everything is an option. Definitely, at this stage."

George Boateng has blamed Brown for Hull's demise, highlighting the infamous half-time, on-pitch dressing down at Manchester City as a major factor in killing confidence.

Crazy huh. Some more (bizarre) quotes from the chairman here:

PHIL BROWN could make a stunning return to Hull as their boss next season.

Brown was dismissed as manager in March after a run of four straight defeats. But he has remained on gardening leave and the severance pay on his £1.2million-a-year salary has not been paid up. His replacement Iain Dowie could not arrest the slump and Hull's defeat at home to Sunderland yesterday all but condemns them to relegation.

Dowie will not be offered a role once his nine-game agreement runs out and in a dramatic twist, chairman Adam Pearson admitted Brown could be back.

He said: "Phil coming back is an option.

"Could I still work with Phil? I don't see any reason why not. I appointed him and always had a good relationship with him. Because he is on gardening leave, he is definitely contractually still our manager. This is not an admission we were wrong to get rid of Phil.

"In hindsight, it is definitely a decision that hasn't worked."

City have debts around £35million and they will clear out big-money earners like Jimmy Bullard, Anthony Gardner and Stephen Hunt in an attempt to stave off administration.

Can only assume Pearson is in financial trouble and had a huge huge bet on Hull to go down. What else is the logical reason for appointing the dreadful Iain Dowie?

His bet has won in style!!

I know Dowie hasn't done well but I doubt Brown would have done much better, I wonder what the thinking behind this is. Can they not afford to pay him off or do they believe that he because he brought them up last time he can do it again?

Boateng's comments yesterday, suggest that a number of players have issues with Brown, and in replacing him once does undermine his position, I really don't see how it can work.

Phil Brown has denied reports that he may return as Hull manager next season.

Brown was dismissed in March but chairman Adam Pearson is reported to be ready to offer Brown a return.

Brown said: "Philip Brown is on gardening leave and technically still employed by the club, but I expect to go our separate ways in the summer.

"It's been a strange time out of the game. I don't have anything against the club or Mr Pearson but Philip Brown certainly won't be returning to Hull City."

Why does he always refer to himself in third person? Shocking

You can see the logic though - Hull have very little cash and so probably can't afford to poach another manager. The Dowie experiment has failed.

In reality though I suspect they are trying to scare someone who is interested into giving them some cash to release Brown. I'd imagine they want to avoid a Leeds like situation where they are paying players and managers who have left substantial wages for long periods of time.

I think the club is just badly managed from top to bottom, I caught part of Goals on Sunday this morning and they were saying that Hull fans were booing Jimmy Bullard because they see his wages, and transfer fee as being partly responsible for their financial situation. Also they said that his (like a number of other players) wages aren't reduced when if they get relegated.
