Cudicini seriously injured in bike crash

Tottenham goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has suffered serious injuries after being involved in a road traffic accident this morning.
The Italian is currently in hospital with a suspected broken pelvis after his BMW superbike collided with a Ford Fiesta this morning and there are already doubts over whether he will be able to play again.

It is too early to say whether this is the case but the statement issued by the police will be a real concern for Tottenham officials.

A police spokesperson confirmed: "A 36-year-old male suffered injuries described as possibly life-changing and was taken to an East London hospital for further assessment and treatment."

Tottenham have confirmed the accident but have yet to comment on his injuries.

A statement read: "We can confirm Carlo Cudicini was involved in a road accident this morning. The club doctor is with him at hospital where we await the result of scans and tests.

"When more is known and things are made clear, a statement will be made through the club's website."

Surprised footballers are allowed to ride these bikes. Surely their insurers would not allow it? Anyway, hope he pulls through.

Sh!t sounds bad, I've always had a software spot for Cudicini even if he did play for Chelsea. Why would a pro sportman like that go around on a superbike? I bet the club are a bit pissed off, I thought most clubs band players from riding these kind of bikes.

Slight change of subject (and mood) but remember Shaun Wright-Phillips on the Harley bike?

          Get well soon Carlo.

Class keeper, completely wasted sat on a bench. Agree that it's surprising he's allowed to ride a motorbike though.

Jesus. Yeah i would think the clubs would have it in their contracts that players are not to ride bikes etc.

A similar case sprung up a year ago in the NBA, where a top young SG Monta Ellis smashed his ankle up pretty bad, he said he did it playing street ball, but after the surgery the doc said there is no way you could do what Ellis did playing basketball. He had to have been in an accident......Ellis admitted it was from a moped accident a few weeks after He nearly got his $60mill contract torn up as a result. Lucky boy.

Bikes are bad news. Far too many vehicles on our roads these days, its dangerous enough in a car

                    Hope he gets well soon.

Like others have said I thought footballers weren't allowed to do dangerous activities like this for insurance reasons

I remember an interview with David Beckham when he went to the US that he wasnt allowed to go skiing or even do things like Ice Skating due to insurance risks

                          Sounds nasty.

Hope he makes a full recovery.

Carlo Cudicini could find himself in hot water - his horror crash was the first Tottenham knew about his motorcycle and the goalkeeper may face disciplinary action for breach of contract.

Cudicini broke both wrists and damaged his pelvis in the accident and the club will wait until he has recovered before deciding on what action, if any, to take. (The Times)
