Chelsea's Mega £70million bid for Franck Ribery

BAYERN MUNICH last night revealed they turned down a massive £70m offer from Chelsea for Franck Ribery in the summer.

The Blues interest in the French star was well known but the actual figure they offered for the 26-year-old winger is stunning.

Carlo Ancelotti sanctioned a £55m offer for Ribery, as well as trying to tease the German giants with Jose Bosingwa,
who only arrived the year before for £16m.

Now that their transfer ban has been suspended for January, Chelsea’s mega bid for Ribery suggests they could go on a £100m spending spree in the New Year.

Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness revealed yesterday: “We never received an offer over 100 million (euros),” he said.

“The best bid came from Chelsea — 65m euros plus the player Bosingwa.”

It's depressing looking at reports like this and seeing how far behind we are in terms of spending power

Fair play to BM for rejecting it.
        Oh I don't know.

It's not about getting Ribery now, it was about getting him before he moved to Bayern for 20 million odd. We missed that boat but these oppotunities will arise in the future with other players.

I wouldn't want us to spend 70 million on a player. At the moment, that's 3 seasons worth of Champions League campaigns.

Spot on. And we seem to have missed out on a few other players in this range, eg Dani Alves, Kun Aguero, Diego Milito, Carlos Tevez....

I thought this was about Chelsea?

LFC have nothing to do with it.

It was in reply to some of the posts made in this thread.

I don't want to name names but one's a red in exile.

I still think it was a valid point if off topic
