I can't decide about Hughes and City - at some points it looks like they are building but suffer from a lack of cohesion and consistency (as you might expect from a team who has been very recently assembled) but at others they just look like none of them are quite good enough and Hughes lacks what is needed to make them an effective force in attack of defense.

I think they should definitely keep him on until the end of the season to see if the side gels under him. I think it's possible that they might emerge in the second half of the season as a more coherent unit - a bit like us last season.

I agree with Shaggy about the odd lack of criticism of Hughes in the media. Especially as 5 Live noted that he was resting Barry (not sure if that is true or not but that is what they believed) - if Rafa had done that there would have been all sorts of wailing and gnashing of teeth but there was bugger all when Hughes does it.

Keane has been on the bench for the last 2 or 3 Spurs game. When he plays he plays on the left side of the attacking 3. Not a peep in the press.

Remember the outrage when Rafa did not start him. What makes it even more bizarre is that for Spurs he is being played out of position to accommodate Defoe and Crouch whereas for us it was to accommodate Gerrard and Torres.

I think the media are extremely xenophobic, but that doesn't explain why Wenger doesn't receive the same level of criticism as Rafa?

I didn't see the game today, but it was the introduction of Tevez which completely changed the game against us last week. Hardly a "useless" player.

Yeah disagree. Last weeks **** up was completely our own doing as it has been all season.

I admit Tevez has got good movement and character but his finishing is just appalling, he misses more sitters than Voronin

I agree with Mr.V, as soon as we scored we had 11 men behind the semi-circle of our own half, its there to see. We invited the pressure.

By all accounts (well someone on the BBC and the Guardian podcast) Wenger is just very open and willing to talk to the press and chat about anything to do with football. I think that along with the fact he has won the PL that gives him a lot of credit.

I also think that once the press take against someone that they rarely change their mind. Rafa has never been the sort to trust the press in general and along with his initial struggles in the PL that has sealed his fate in the press.

I also think it is not just xenophobia but fear of things they don't understand that leads to the press bias. For example they don't understand zonal marking so rather than asking questions or becoming informed they simply attack the system (obviously that doesn't help make Rafa be more willing to talk to them either).
