Good to see Blatter pushing fair play

    From $ky Sports website:

    Blatter defends Henry
Fifa president not critical of striker over handball

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has revealed his support for Thierry Henry in the wake of the France striker's controversial handball.

Henry set up the goal that secured victory for Les Bleus in their World Cup play-off against Republic of Ireland earlier this month.

The goal should have been disallowed after Henry used his hand to control the ball before crossing for William Gallas to head home.

Henry admitted after the game that it was handball but he has received fierce criticism for his actions and for not telling the referee immediately.

Blatter has now broken his silence over the incident, with L'Equipe newspaper reporting that he phoned Henry following the match to offer his backing.

"(Henry) was honest by admitting that he did use his hand, but it wasn't his responsibility to tell the referee," the French newspaper quotes Blatter as saying.

"The referee should have taken the time to reflect rather than immediately awarding the goal."

I really do not understand how this guy is in charge of world football and even more how (as far as I am aware) he doesn't seem to get any challengers for his job. He should be out condemning Henry and intimating that he will banned from the World Cup. Making an example of Henry might just make some of these 'Professional' footballers think twice about cheating.

I heard something on the radio the other day where they were complaining that the silence coming from FIFA and UEFA about the Henry handball was deafening. Then someone started talking about why was it that nobody ever challenges Blatter, is he some kind of Swiss mafioso or something?

It is absolutely scandalous that they have been so slow in dealing with this but then you only have to look at our own FA and Premier League to see that these people just want to be in the roles of power to take the cash and not actually do anything, especially if it upsets 'certain' people in the game!

At least FIFA is consistent, when the fat little Argie gypo out jumped lead feet Shilton in the infamous "Hand of ****ing God" incident, FIFA were just as dumb and gutless to act.
Those that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law.
Those that killed her, were following the law.

Republic of Ireland ask for extra 2010 World Cup place

Fifa's Sepp Blatter has revealed the Republic of Ireland have requested a spot in the 2010 World Cup finals as an extra team after their play-off defeat.

The Republic lost to an extra-time goal against France when Thierry Henry handled the ball during the build-up.

"I will bring it to the attention of the Executive Committee," said Blatter.

The president of football's world governing body added that goal-line technology and extra referees would be considered for the South Africa finals.

An Extra place? That would mean 33 teams how would that work
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He thought Henry may be in need of some support apparently, after cheating caused him to come in for some criticism, poor Henry.

                        The Fiver's take on this:

"Younger Fiver readers may not be aware of the fact that the Irish had actually been given a bye to the World Cup final, only for Thierry Henry to throw a spanner in the works by picking up the ball in a qualifying play-off, running the length of the Stade de France pitch and flinging it at William Gallas's head to set up the goal that earned France a place in South Africa at O'Ireland's expense. The bollix.

Needless to say, the Irish accepted this setback in much the way you'd expect from a country that prides itself on being the world's friendliest, most laid-back race, whinging so incessantly about the injustice of it all that they've now been reduced to the lowly status of Object of Ridicule for Fifa president Sepp Blatter."

                        It's getting really embarrasing now.
That rug really tied the room together.

I wish it would all just end now.

You know you're screwed when even Sepp Blatter can openly laugh at you.
