Sven-Goran Eriksson admits Notts County's top-flight plans are on hold

    • Sven-Goran Eriksson reaffirms commitment to Notts County
    • 'It's not easy to reach the Premier League from where we are'

Sven-Goran Eriksson admits Notts County's plan to reach the Premier League is "on hold" following the club's change of ownership, but says he remains committed to the League Two club.

Eriksson was appointed director of football last summer by the then owner Munto Finance, which has moved on, and County are now seeking fresh investment to fund a move through the divisions.

On the day County's FA Cup third-round tie with Forest Green Rovers fell victim to the weather, Eriksson told BBC radio: "It's on hold at the moment unfortunately, because things went bad.

"But hopefully in just a couple of weeks it'll take off again. That's our hope. I still believe it is possible but what we need is money. It's not easy if you want to reach the Premier League from where we are."

Eriksson's future was in doubt following a difficult start at the club, with the signing of the former England defender Sol Campbell who then left after playing just one match.

There were also doubts over the identity of the club's new backers and reports linking Eriksson with the national manager's posts in North Korea and Sweden.

But Eriksson added: "It's been too many bad things at Notts County during this six months, but hopefully in a couple of weeks' time things will change. I could have taken Sweden if I wanted but I was in this job so I said no to it.

"The challenge to take a club from 19th place in League Two into the Premier League is one of the biggest things you can do in football. Of course I miss Lazio and football and that level, but life goes on."
"The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Or the new owners just don't want to pay his ridiculous wages

The new owner's only paid £1 for the club apparently and they're in debt by £1.5m.

Seems ridiculous considering the debt that we're in but it just shows the gulf between the Premiership and lower leagues.

It just keeps coming............... How the league allows the clubs to be taken over, without proper checks is beyond me.

It's scanadlous, how can it happen? Also, how are they paying the players those big wages? I thought the cowboys who took over had no money and put no money into the club?

Clearly they took out huge loans to pay for all this, probably loaned a couple of million for themselves then legged it. Its no wonder they were so intent on keeping their identities a secret

Should be a criminal investigation against the powers that be in my book - who keeps going on about the infamous 'fit and proper persons test'? Is it the FA / League or is it just a Premier League thing?

Martin Allen just been sacked, I reckon Lee Clarke will be the next man in charge, but can't find any bookies taking bets yet....

Lee Clarke is already signed up elsewhere if the stories are to be believed.
