They nearly appointed Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll which would have been a bit more interesting as I hear he is highly rated for his brand of attacking football.

I guess they have no interest in splashing out big wages for an experienced manager

Apparently the O'Driscoll deal went south due to the compensation demanded.

While it is a fairly uninspiring appointment he had a decent record at Scunthorpe and has links to the club. Any higher profile appointment was likely to be short term one way or another so picking someone who has long terms plans might well have been at the heart of the decision. I'm not sure you can really fault them for wanting to run the club within it's means. A lot of the smaller clubs who have been promoted have really struggled in the long run whether they have survived a season or not. The cautionary tales of the likes of Derby, Ipswich, Bradford and Barnsley probably had a big impact on their choice.

If they decide not to spend a few million to improve their squad then they will probably go down and probably then regret it. Coyle did an amazing job bringing them up and if they go down now due to the lack of investment then it could be another 10 years before the are promoted again.

Should they not be taking this opportunity more seriously and spending some cash to solidify their premier league status?

Its just seems like they aren't too bothered and they have appointed a manager that will be quite happy to stay on managing them in the championship.

Depends really - it's proved difficult for clubs to just spend a few million and not end up with long term problems paying wages if they go down. There is no guarantee that spending lots or getting a high profile manager would help them and to my mind so long as they continue to play to win then they have made a wise choice not to blow loads of money (not saying it is the right managerial choice as I know little about him). Unlike other clubs who have invested if they are doing less well their crowds will halve or worse and they would probably never recover if they over spend.
