Spurs clearly knew Bale was going from early in the window & got all their business done in preparation... then sold Bale & didn't have to panic buy.
He did not go on strike, that is utter tosh. Spurs were never ever going to risk that golden egg once they started to spend the transfer fee (that they had yet to receive)."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

No doubts it was "if he did", but the player himself kept his gob shut and the whole scenario was played out behind the scenes.. in comparison to the Suarez saga giving interviews, inviting press around to his house & the whole contract embarrassment. Never in doubt that Bale was not going to go to Real.. hence Spurs doing their business so early.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostHe still went on strike which is a ****ty thing to do.
Absolutely zero comparison IMO & both clubs played a blinder with both scenarios

He didn't turn up for training for no reason and the club spoke about fining him so is that not a form of strike?

You make it sound so black and white. If we had a world record offer for Suarez you think he would have been here as late in the window as Bale was (still at Spurs)?Originally posted by rcasemore View PostExactly, both players in question haven't covered themselves in glory with their respective transfers one however has stayed and accepted it the other by all accounts made it clear he'd never play for spurs again and wouldn't come back to train or play for them.
Bale was always a goner, the delays and complications were down to Levy and Madrid."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

I don't honestly know I think it would depend on the business we could do to replace him I.e. make sure we've got the player we want lined up and deal agreed before we let him go.
The sad fact these days in football is that there is very little loyalty left in the game and whomever they play for us just a job for them and they use all the tools they can to get what they want whether its a new contract or a move
