    Footballer Critical After Being Shot

Paraguayan international footballer Salvador Cabanas has been shot in the head in a bar in Mexico City.

Cabanas, 29, who plays for the Mexican club America, is said to be in a critical condition in a local hospital.

Mexican officials said two suspects had been arrested but the motive for the attack was unclear.

Cabanas was expected to play for Paraguay at this year's World Cup in South Africa. He was also linked to English Premier League side Sunderland.

His international team-mate Paulo da Silva already plays for Sunderland, who are managed by Steve Bruce.

I would be critical as well if I where shot - you can't really be praising and positive in that situation.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Cabanas regained consciousness yesterday, with a bullet still lodged in his head.

Too early to determine what long term damage he may have, but he's been able to talk to his family and people from his club, and been able to move his extremities, so the initial signs are pretty good!

One of the doctors asked him when he woke if he was ok, he replied "I'm fine".

Cabanas has said he still intends to play in the world cup this summer, and his neurosurgeon isn't ruling it out just yet!

            Amazing.

His teammate Juan Carlos Silva (21) was also shot today while being carjacked, he was lucky enough to be shot only in the ass, so he'll be able to play again in a few weeks.
