That's a strange way to think about it. We've paid £9m on a GK who our manager thinks is one of the best GKs in Europe.

What if Barca hadn't come through until the very end of the transfer window? That would have left us with no time to sort a replacement, and other clubs would have the knowledge that we were desperate for a new GK. Thats the road that lead us to paying £35m for Carroll....

I think the club and Rodgers have played this the best they can, they've kept the clubs long term interests in mind.

I know what you mean. It's frustrating, but it's difficult for them to be honest when they know their words will affect how much money they end up getting for a player or whether they have to pay severance. I think I'm hating the game not the player on this one.

I rate Mignolet. But before he arrived we had one of Europe's best goalkeepers and £9m. Now, we have one if Europe's best goalkeepers but no £9m. We are £9m worse off, but in a similar position. Of course this doesn't take into account that we would've had to replace Reina at some stage...

So we're not really worse off then? We've brought in our seemingly number1 target for the GK position and although we've not sold Pepe yet he's off the wage bill.

I think we'll see him transferred to Barca next season for around £10M after his loan at Napoli where he'll be playing every game as well as in the CL which should help his stock rise again.

He may not be off the wage bill, it'll be lower of course but it's not guaranteed he's off it totally. It's fair enough reasoning from Brendan but it's still not ideal depending on how much, if any, of Pepe's wages we are still paying, on top of Mignolets.

I saw it as a purely cost cutting move from the start and if this is true then I was wrong but what was clear from the start, there was no chance we would keep the two of them.

There was no way we were going to keep both, made no sense but its good we've seemingly got our first choice keeper, if we'd waited until Pepe had gone the price might have gone up or someone else might have beaten us to him.

For once we did the transfer the right way around IMO

Rodgers said in an interview with TAW that he genuinely wanted to keep Pepe and bring competition to the position but he also was told at the end of last year, by Pepe's representatives, that if an offer which interested him came along he would be willing to listen to it. So in short, Mignolet was an insurance policy as well as signing one of the top goalkeeping prospects in Europe.

Make of that what you will.
                      Are we winning?

Its a bad position though. They can't really come out and say
"Reina was supposed to go to Barca but they don't want him now. However we already replaced him with someone better so he's ****ed."
