Sorry if this sounds grumpy but I don't think it's an interesting fact at all.

    More "interesting" world cup facts:

None of the teams competing at this year's FIFA World Cup as ever won it in South Africa.

World Cup winning teams are traditionally composed of 11 players in the starting line-up.

In every World Cup final, the ball used is more or less spherical.

No team has ever won the World Cup with a player in the squad called Hitler.
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I didn't think it would be that many. How many World Cup finals have there been?
          Oh I don't know.

Has to be less, I would think it`s hard to get something more spherical that spherical

The ball could be more spherical with each passing phase of the competion. So it is more spherical in the final, and less spherical in the group stages. Or vice-versa.
                Oh I don't know.

                  Good point.
So do you train with a ball suited to get you through the early stage, or do you hope the team is good enough to make it to the later stages and train with balls that put you in good shape for the semis/final? There is a lot to thing about regard WC preparations.

Just do what the Germans do. They'll get it right.

Mother Theresa never played at the world cup despite being a prodigious inside right.

Bulgaria (I think it was) played Paraguay.

Bulgaria had a player whos name was Bigeri (spelt diff prob) and Paraguay had a player called Arse.

So you had Big Hairy Arse on the pitch.
