    Corruption, match fixing

Is extremely widespread. Iv noticed this alot the past few weeks while looking at Serie A and French football.

Today for example im absolutely 100% positive that Ajacio in france ligue 2 (2nd tier of france) threw their game against Bastia.

Ajacia were already midtable and nothing to play for at home would normally be expected to be favourites. Instead all day today large bets were going in for relegation strugglers Bastia to beat them and sure enough with the help of a penalty they won 1-0.

This is a regular occurrence now. In Italy, Catania are now known to be extremely dodgy and regularly fix matches, huge suspicions about their match tomorrow with alot of strange betting going on.

And In Spain, iv heard a lot recently about Malaga being involved in fixing recent games

I wonder how many of the players/officials would need to be in on this in order to carry it off?

I cant see how a whole club could be corrupt, far too many ways for it to be outed, however there is no doubt that individuals can and are corrupt, look at Brucie for example. Refs/players/linesmen can all influence games although it may be impossible to actually guarantee a result as there are too many variables.

I can see it with Keepers, as they can directly influence the score with the odd one that goes under the body, although we have all seen games where one team has dominated so much that the keeper doesnt have a save to make.

In those instances surely other members of the team have to be involved in the 'fixing'

                The important question is:

How much should I put on the Catania game?

Draw odds are 1/1 at the moment.

Exactly, you NEVER get odds that low for a draw. Some bookies have withdrawn the game altogether and others have left the market open. All the money is going on the draw......we'll see what happens though maybe this time it won't happen, To be honest I do have a slight doubt about whether this Catania game really will be fixed because its a big local derby so I won't be betting on it

Can someone briefly enlighten me on why this match would be fixed as a draw? Draws dont really benefit anyone and it's hard to fix a draw - if you're fixing it to lose, that's easy but to draw, you have to either rely on your own strikers not to score (for a 0-0) or rely on them to do so, for a score draw. Likewise for a striker, you can make sure you dont score, but you need your defence to produce a shut out etc.

Its not hard to fix a draw. IIRC it happened in the world cup between Germany and Austria

Park & Scholes off Macheda & Nani on for the Scum
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

EDIT: D'oh, wrong thread. My defence is I was misled by Exiled red's post.
                            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Also remember the Denmark v Sweden game at a recent world cup or euros - draw put them both through and put italy out.

It's fine to fix a draw when it's circumstances like that, and both sides need the draw. Dont see that being the case with the Catania game though.
