in reality the club havent made any more money than it would do before.

not sure how to work it out well i have a few ideas but selling lots of shirts for a new player doesnt mean its money that would not have been spent anyway

is that better? or have i babbled again

There are always gonna be fans who would need a massive superstar name to persuade them to buy a shirt that they otherwise wouldnt bother with.

Remember the likes of Ravanelli at Boro? Until he came along, boro fans had the choice of people like Craig Hignett to have put on their shirts I think it's fair to say that many wouldnt have been arsed with Hignett, but got their wallets out for Ravanelli
I agree but the point is to see the size of the effect in any meaningful way you have to know what the overall changes in shirt sale volumes and revenue were, which aren't given in the original story.

How much do Real Madrid actually make for selling a shirt. After the retailer, manufaturer etc - probably less than 5 euros a shirt. The original article makes the assumption that they sell a shirt for 85 euros and that's the profit.

        Bollocks

You dont half sound like you approach everything in a 'school essay' type of way, with all the research and a 'show you workings' type of style

I would imagine that signing a big name player could prompt people who wouldn't normally buy shirts to buy one, but as you say I'd imagine alot of their fans would have bought a shirt anyway.

I would be very suprised if they sold as many Ronaldo shirts as that is suggesting, and even more suprised if what they are implying comes from 'additional' shirts
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Do you really think only €5 of the shirt price is gonna be profit?

I doubt it's anywhere near as low as that mate.

the comment is he has paid back the £80m but having shirt sales of £80m isnt the same thing. you need to know

a what profit from those sales have madrid made
b how much has ronaldo increased shirt sales by

now i doubt he has really made the money back already but i would imagine he will. also what effect do those sales have on the deals you do be it tv or sponsorship.

as i said madrid are the masters of this. they learnt with beckham.

also they know they can have debt wiped out if they need to.

I feel it is far superior to the 'Ooooh, look, they quoted a big number' way of looking at things.

depends how you look at it. if you ignore the deal with addidas then you have the manufacture of the shirt and then everyone along the supply chain needs their bit including the retailer.

also i would imagine that ronaldo takes a chunk due to his image rights

Oh yeah, all that is true but i'd still be surprised if it's just €5 profit.

Has more letters than cr9 so they lost a fortune there

                            Not that clever are they!!!

neither of us know do we.

but the headline was that they have made the money for is transfer fee back already.

the support they have for that does not add up that is all we are saying.

am also not saying they wont get the money back i imagine they will.
