I think Defoe's record at international level will push him ahead of Bent. As good as Bent has been this season he's yet to make a dent on the international scene. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The more I look at that list the more convinced I am that Wright-Phillips will be the one to miss outOriginally posted by Broner View PostRemember for years everyone was saying England had no width?
Now there's:
Walcott
Lennon
Milner
SWP

Agree. He doesn't have the touch or awareness on the International stage imo.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI think Defoe's record at international level will push him ahead of Bent. As good as Bent has been this season he's yet to make a dent on the international scene.
Still love him at Liverpool though.

Maybe before his injury. I still expect him to be first choice but I think Walcott will go too. Johnson is the interesting case for me.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostLennon's way ahead of Walcott in the pecking order if you ask me. Much improved, although it remains to be seen if his form is still good after the injury.
I agree with NY that SWP has done little to suggest he deserves a chance."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

it's a valid point though - was it the euros or a world cup a few years back where iirc both bent and defoe had finished as the 1st and 2nd leading english goalscorers in the league - and there was a couple of injuries, and it looked certain than at least one would be taken, possiblity of both (in hindsight both should have gone) and whoever ti was mclaren or sven gambled and took a half fit rooney and over looked bent/defoe for an untried at any decent level walcott

He hasn't, unfortunately.Originally posted by dww View PostNews ticker doodad on the Guardian site suggests that Terry has broken his foot.
England and Chelsea defender John Terry should be fit to play in Saturday's FA Cup final against Portsmouth despite injuring his right foot in training.
Fears over Terry's participation in the World Cup - with the tournament less than a month away - were raised after he was taken to hospital on Wednesday.
But a scan revealed the Chelsea captain did not suffer a break.
"With such an important match coming up the right thing was to put a protective boot on and have a scan," Terry said.
"The scan shows there's no break. I aim to train on Thursday, if not Friday, and of course play in the final."
